Any word on whether Legend of the Crystal Skull will have the same new --& much talked-about-- changesmad as White Wolf of Icicle Creek?

I don't know Carrie but if it's like White Wolf, count me out. This game has been painful on so many levels.
Could they make any person more annoying than Tino?

I hope not as well because I'm not sure I will even bother with finishing this one.

Does anyone here hang out at the HerInteractive boards? I'm wondering what the target age group thinks of White Wolf. If they don't like it either, I'd expect the future Nancy Drews not to use it as an example.

Jenny100 -- I took a quick look at a poll thread at the Her Interactive site which also included mini-reviews of The White Wolf of Icicle Creek. Although they aren't wild about the format changes (they miss the music, the books at the beginning, ect.) the younger gamers, on the whole, love the game. Some of them do refer to the repetitive tasks as frustrating, but others like the fact that the game took much longer to complete than (for instance) Kapu Cave, where many of the tasks were optional.

The chief complaint in terms of gameplay is that the Fox and Geese game is very difficult to win.

I ordered the game(wish I didn't)installed it, was very disappointed in it frown to much boring tasks to do!I won't jump to order the next one until I read what others have to say about it! I didn't like Danger by Design at all but in my opinion this one was worse! rolleyes

I may not have gone where I intended to go,but I think I have ended up where I need to be.

The cooking became tedious really fast (I think one of each meal was enough) but, overall, I really enjoyed "White Wolf of Icicle Creek".

I mentioned in another thread that I also ordered "Haunted Carousel" because I hadn't played that one yet and, as I was playing the midway games, it occurred to me that the side games I enjoyed so much slowly disappeared with each new release. If I was stuck, they were a nice diversion.

I also missed the familiarity of the books and music at the beginning of the game but, IMHO, this was one of the better ones. In fact, I'm replaying it now.

I certainly don't mean for this to be a spoiler for the game but what is dragging me down are the chores because I feel like I'm constantly watching the clock just like in my real life and I play adventure games to escape from that. I'm wandering around and feeling this time pressure which I don't care for at all. Because of that, I'm not much inclined to finish this one. Maybe I will just set it aside and play the stacks of other games I have waiting and come back to this during a dry spell.

Sad to say I'm starting to lean in that direction as well Sue. Still haven't bought White Wolf, so I can only go on what others are saying. I'm still open, but the more changes I read about, the less interest I have.

In addition to the other changes, it seems there's a clock ticking on our gameplay(?)mad. I agree with you Jenna, that adventure games serve as an escape from the stresses of real life. When I'm in that adventure game world, I don't like feeling the pressure of being timed.

I hope HI hears us and reverts Crystal Skull to the former standard ND format. Guess we're just going to have to sit tight & see what HI has in store for us.

Same here. I've been putting off playing it because I don't like that clock ticking away. It goes faster than real time too, which means you have to do more chores than you would in real time.

Leeana, I love Nancy Drew games. I have played every single one. The complaints here are not from those who do not care for the games, but from die hard ND fans who want the games to stay as they were.

White Wolf of Icicle Creek is now the bestselling PC game on Amazon. You can check it out here. More powerful than Harry Potter! More popular than Lara Croft! It's...Nancy Drew!

EDIT: I just checked, and the hourly update has moved White Wolf of Icicle Creek down to #2 PC game overall. It's still quite an accomplishment, and in the next hour it could easily go back up to #1.

After all's said & done --for me, at least-- I think I'm just going to get White Wolf of Icicle Creek and see for myself. Amazon has a nice 10% discount... always like those. Plus, the weather's getting hotter & it's time for a nice snowy environment.

Just BAAGed White Wolf, Secrets of the DaVinci: Forbidden Manuscript, & Anacapri: the Dream, all at nice discounts cool.

I enjoyed White Wolf. I have played every ND game there is and I love her as well. This was a little different than the others and I also thought the cooking was a little bit much, but when all is said and done, I thought it was a great game and I definitely would play all of the new ones that come out. Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon as the very first game I ever played on a PC and that is actually the game that got me hooked and I have been playing ever since. So therefore my loyalty stays with ND.

Quotes are made either from the "full reply form button" at the bottom of each post. If you wish to add your own quotes remember the the first code is written without the forward slash / and the second quote code has the slash. Go to your post and try it. Just click on "EDIT" at the bottom of your post --- and then remove that first slash --- then click on the Change Post button

I might not have been clear when I talked about this being a timed game. I didn't mean to mislead anybody. It isn't like an action game where you have to finish the game in a certain length of time.
Click to reveal..
I just meant that you need to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner (can't avoid it) so you have to fit your adventuring in between the cooking duties. You also have to do daily maid duties which also keeps you watching the clock.

Jenna, I just love that Spoiler window thingy (just like to click on things, I guess lol ).

Finally bought "White Wolf" at Amazon to see what everyone's talking about... & despite my own moaning & groaning about madChangesmad. It's hard to give up the world of ND. Guess we'll just have to 'roll with the punches'; 'go with the flow', etc... & hope maybe we'll get some things back (stack of books, 2nd chance, music...) in future adventures.
