Please post your system specs. The system specs can be found in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking start->run->type dxdiag->click ok. If you are running Windows Vista and do not have the "run" command, then type dxdiag in "search". We need the following information: Under the System Tab : 1. Operating system 2. Processor model and speed. 3. Amount of memory (RAM) ....then click the Display Tab: 4. Video card brand and model (next to device "Name") 5. The driver version (this will be a series of numbers) **edit** Look at the responses (by Greg R and Andy) in this thread... http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/microso...l-problems.htmlIt's a different game, but the same error message.

Version 7.15.0011.6230 Main driver nud 3dum.dll.nvwgr2um.dll Those seem to be from 8/28/2007 Since you have an 8000 series card, you should update them. Since you have Vista, make sure the game isn't trying to install to Program Files. It should probably install to your Documents folder or possibly to Vista's Games folder. Tried to install the game and this is what I get.. Unable to execute file: F:\DXSETUP\DXSETUP.EXE Create process failed:code 740 The requested operation requires elevation This application has failed to start because d3dx9-34.dll was not found It sounds like this game needs DirectX 9 installed to work. Are you playing from a Limited User account? You may have to right-click the Setup file and choose to run as an administrator, even if you're logged in from an account with administrator privileges. (That's the "elevation" part) ***Here's*** a link to a thread about a similar problem with Dreamfall and Vista. They say to install DirectX 9 from Microsoft yourself (don't let the game do it).

I will update the card. Also I did install Dreamfall with just the cd/dvd? and it installed perfectly. Dreamfall actually plays better on my Vista than it did on my old XP. I think it did try to install to program files, I will try again to install in documents or game folder. After the install the cd said to install DirectX9 and it was required so thats what I did, wonder why they would put that on it if it wasnt going to work... Seems this game took a long time just to make it Vista ready, wonder if they tested it.. Will keep trying or I will just pull out the old XP and install it on that one. Thanks for the help will go check out the links

Hi Catsmom, I just ordered The lost Crown, and I read your vista problem and first I groaned, and moaned, and got angry with Bill Gates for forcing us to be used as his beta testers and having to pay to do so. Yuck!
Please tell me how you fixed the problem? since I am sure I will have the same problem when Lost Crown arrives.
Well, for my anniversary present my beloved hubby is at the store right now in Ireland and bringing home a Dell 420 XPS Quad core, 8800 GT card, with 22 inch monitor and it has everything Robert recommended nearly identical to the Dell XPS 720.
The only thing bad is PC world sells it with Vista and dell says the warranty is void if I remove it and install Win XP! PC world tech said only if I buy from Dell directly from Dell and they install the Win XP will the warranty not be voided. Can you believe that?
Anyway Catsmom, I will be in the same situation and trying to get Vista to work with the new games and old games. Perhaps us Vista boomers can start a link, because we may really need each others advice on getting games to work. Waiting to hear the good news that you found a working solution to Lost Crown and getting it to work with Vista.

Seems this game took a long time just to make it Vista ready, wonder if they tested it... Probably not as much as they should have. Maybe their DirectX 9 installer works on some computers and not others. And it may not matter if you already have the most recent DirectX 9 installed.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing problems with the game but why do you think that you have to overwrite and lose your previous saves? All you need do is this (if you wish to protect earlier saves)
Go to My Documents -> The Lost Crown folder --> right click and select --> new folder --> name this SAVES_LC1 --> Select the save that you wish to keep (any or all) and then copy them into this new folder. Now you can rewrite the saves in the game and you will have another 8 saves. When this 8 are done just follow the same procedure, naming the new folder SAVES_LC2 etc.
You can do this for almost any game.

Sherryah, most games have worked on my vista except this one and Operation Wintersun. I just dont understand if they knew Vista has DX10 why make you install DX9? Isnt that going backwards? I will go to microsoft and see if I can find where you get DX9.But if I got Dreamfall to work wouldnt my computer have DX9 already? I am so confused... I got it!!!yahoooo.. Instead of using the DX9 installer that comes after the installation of the game go to My Computer with the game cd in and look at the files. Use the DXSETUP and it installs that way... I am happy, I just saw the begining of the game and the main guy at the train station.... Think this weekend I will go look for a book Vista for game dummies

I just dont understand if they knew Vista has DX10 why make you install DX9? Isnt that going backwards? No. DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 are separate on Vista. It isn't like earlier versions of DirectX, where the later DirectX would work with games that required the earlier one. DirectX 9 games will have to have DirectX 9 installed if you're using Vista. DirectX 9 will not overwrite DirectX 10, so any game that uses DirectX 10 will still work.

Aha! I didn't realize it had DirectX 9 at all because all the posts I'd read said you had to install DirectX 9 for DirectX 9 compatibility with games. But this is more like the situation when you already have XP with DirectX 9.0c, but still have to install the DirectX 9 that came with the game.

But games almost always include DirectX in their installers these days. And what other application uses DirectX 9 that wouldn't also work with DirectX 10? DX10 is not backward compatible, Jenny. That's the whole point of DX9.0L being included with Windows Vista.

That's not what I was saying. What applications other than games won't work with DirectX 10? Anything that uses Direct X that is not designed to run in DX10.
