Can you download them from the Internet?
Google for
Flash download
Shockwave download

(I kind of doubt this will help your problem, but with this game, who knows?)

But I checked the installed version of the Flash player on my computer, and it is the latest one, plus when I tried to install the Shockwave player (which, incidentally, is a predecessor of the Flash player apparently), I got an error message saying something like "you have to be the computer's local administrator", what I should be allthesame, I think.

Can you right-click the install file and choose "Run as administrator?"

Shockwave isn't a predecessor of Flash. Flash was around before Shockwave.

No, but the very next time I tried I got the same error message as with the Flash player before, after which my browser just quit, and I can only indicate "run", but this time it installed "Norton Security Scan" along with the Shockwave player(I read somewhere on the "Adobe" site about it being its predecessor: strange).

I checked the wiki and apparently it used to be called Macromedia Shockwave instead of just Shockwave (which I knew of as a browser app).

I can't tell if you've got it installed or not.
I have no idea why it would install "Norton Security Scan."
Are you sure that's what it was doing?
Do you use Norton antivirus? It may be "protecting" you from installing Shockwave.

No: just "AVG Free Edition".

When you installed it, did it give you an option for a custom install? Maybe it installed something extra as part of the "regular" install.

I don't think so, but it still doesn't work, that is to say even with both players installed you know, hence.

After having tried at least ten times and still without any success I'm about to give up: by the way, I downloaded some savegames, but I don't know where to place them, since you can't load any?

The save files are located in "My Documents"
Now, keep in mind I have the US version, which is known as Missing Since January.

My save folder is entitled:
Missing_Save_Files

Here there is another subfolder and a file
  • Folder = User_1
  • File = Cfg.cfg

In the Folder - User_1

we have the save games which are called
game.sav

and a user.cfg file which holds your user name password and email information.

Code:
     î
            username
email@whereever.com
           password Ùã

+C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe
       http://www.whereever.com
login MAIL password ID
MAIL_SOFT type net path NETURL

Perhaps you should check in My Documents for this main folder or something similar ---> InMemoriam_Save_Files

In the end, I succeeded in finishing the game without this part by continuing a saved game (IGNIS2), but when I tried to do it anyway by continuing another saved game (IGNIS1) exactly the same thing happened, so that's definitely strange.
