Have you positioned the cannon already?
If it is not in the correct position, you can not load it.

I am having a problem finding The Great English Seamen in the bookstore as well. Is the bookshelf the one by the ladder?

Duh! I just found the book. I was looking in the wrong part of the bookstore!

Hope this is the right place to post. It's about the coins. I just can't get Lady Jane's coin into the bag to keep. I move it down the the picture of the bag in the lower left corner and the screen pops to a screen of an empty bag. I don't get why the coin won't go into the bag. I've tried left clicking, right clicking, double clicking, everything! Help!

P.S. Holmes says "perfect" after every move and I've used the pictures in Mag's walkthru.

Thanks!

It looks like you might have missed a step on the last puzzle - the interchange of column 4 and 6.
I just replayed it and after doing all the puzzle - I left clicked Lady Jane's coin and it automatically went to the inventory. Maybe redo the puzzle or check the picture of the last puzzle. luck

I am having a problem getting Holmes to calculate the information from the 4 paintings mentioned in the letter in the museum. He says "what do I do now?" and I'm sure it has to do with the padlock on the crate in the front of the museum. I looked at the WT (which I try my very best NOT to do), made sure I had done everything (which I surprised I did), and I can't get any farther. Please help!

Hi shutterbug, welcome to GameBoomers!

The dates on the paintings will help you in calculating the information. Was it this part that you checked against the WT? Which part of the puzzle do you need help with specifically? wave

I can't get Holmes to "do the math". I have found the 4 paintings. I know I must subtract 2 from 1, then multiply by 3rd and subtract the 4th. I need to know what to do to get Holmes to actually do this. I have repeated the hunt 5 times and I can't get any farther. Am I suppposed to find paper and pencil or talk to someone to do the math now that I know how to get the ultimate number? (I feel knee-high to a grasshopper because I know that I am not doing something so obvious!)

Aha, gotcha. You do the calculation yourself, no need to directly interact with the game for this. Once you have a number you are happy with, then you can try it out on something within the game. You already know what that something is. wink Have fun! Let us know if you need any further help.

Rushes,

I click on that Item and it won't let me do anything. frown I am about ready to do one of two things. I might reload the whole game and see if that helps, or just give up on it - I've never done that before, but I have been working on this for 4 days. I have only 5 hairs left on my head. Unless you have any other magical words of wisdom on how to get passed this roadblock of mine, I think that I've just about tapped myself on this one.

Don't give up, we'll get you through it somehow.

Are you getting a hand or a magnifying cursor when you try to examine the padlock?

Make sure that you have examined the correct 4 paintings in close-up. What 4 digit number do you have?

I am getting the hand cursor and this is fixing to turn me into a "curser" smile. I look at the paintings, but nothing specific is said until after I look at the 4th one when he basically says "what do I do with these clues".

I have the first number is 1874
second as 1652 which after the math is 222 (this pic was so small in the room I almost missed it)
third is 49 which would make 10878 after the math
fourth is 1894 leaving 8984 after the math.

Is Holmes supposed to say something after you find each picture? I haven't heard him say anything. Maybe this is where I'm messing up.

shutterbug, can you send me your last saved game, and I'll take a look at it and get you past this spot. When things become this frustrating it can spoil a game. You can access my e-mail addy from my profile by clicking on my name. wave

I will try. It might have to wait for the more computer-savy half of this family to come home for this to be accomplished. I appreciate you attempts to help me. smile

No problem, shutterbug, we're here to help. smile

The saves for this game will be in your My Documents folder, in a folder simply headed up "Games". That's where my Nemesis saves are.

Just one last thought: If you're getting the hand cursor, then possibly you are not standing in quite the correct position to access the padlock. Try moving around a little, looking at the padlock from a slightly different angle. This might work.

Have you looked close at each label, name of the paintings?
Holmes will say something about all those paintings, some info date-names.

Just to repeat:
Then you calculate yourself the number and enter that in the padlock.
Be sure that you press the button at right after entering the numbers.

Yes, I did. Some of the info included that it was part of a sqaure painting, painted after an earlier one, etc. when I looked at these four pieces.

I'm beginning to think Sherlock might not like me this time. I'm using a mouse instead of keyboard keys. Would that make a difference?

It shouldn't make a difference. Have you tried moving to different sides of the chest, and up as close as you can, to see if this helps in accessing the padlock? It's all about positioning.
