"Know thine enemy." As important in war as it is in...vampire hunting. Inferno follows in the footsteps of Professor Van Helsing as he attempts to discover Count Dracula's vulnerabilities by re-exploring the past.

Excellent review as always Inferno! bravo
I'm a bit sorry to see the game didn't get an A, I found it to be an Adventure lovers dream in the combination of story, interface and puzzles.

Thanks Becky! yay

Thanks, Inferno

Nice review... I do agree with your quote " The puzzles are the true masterpiece here "

I found the puzzles & the game very sophisticated.

Thanks Becky for the link & Inferno for an interesting and accurate review.

I thought it was almost the perfect AG - great story which moved on at a good pace with an interesting mix of inventory & 'puzzle' puzzles. smile

Thanks for the review Inferno.

IMO the lack of anything really annoying, like timed sequences, was one of the game's best features. I also enjoyed the variety of puzzles and the occasional moments of humor, like the names of some of Dracula's victims.

The game seems to use an updated, smoothed out version of the 2.5D game engine that was used in Case of the Silver Earring instead of the 3D engine used by The Awakening and Sherlock vs Arsene Lupin. That's why there is no keyboard navigation and everything is point-and-click.

I think it's the first Dracula game I've played where
Click to reveal..
you vanquish Dracula and he comes right back before the game is over. But the reason for this is explained in the reading material you find at one point in the game. Your intent was not to kill Dracula, but to save Mina.

For some reason this game reminds me of Keepsake. Any idea if this is done by the same developer or using the same graphics engine?

I don't know the Engine but they were made by different developers. Dracula: Origin is made by Frogwares, Keepsake is developed by Wicked Studios.

I know they used AgeiaPHx and Bink -- the look is the same as some of the other Sherlock Holmes games -- but I don;t know which engine they used either.

The game engine in Keepsake is not the same one that Frogwares developed. I think Wicked Studios developed their own engine. Dracula Origin and Keepsake may both be 2.5D games, but look at how saved games were managed in the two games -- nothing alike. And Keepsake's Hint system is unique -- not just that it has one, but the way it's accessed by clicking in the lower left of your screen.

Just finished the game and really enjoyed it. The character of Van Helsing is quite remarkable - the way he talks... Also, Dracula seems to be a badder villain, an utterly incorrigible scoundrel here compared to whom I remembered him to be in Coppola's movie, which tried to redeem his character at the end.

I actually like the ending, something not unexpected of a modern horror story/film.

Frogware should do more vampire games - like adapt the Anne Rice ones next! The main character could be a good vampire or an evil vampire for a change. Or perhaps, Frogware could allow the gamer to control the villain for some segments of the game.
