Hi guys I need some advice if possible. I am having trouble playing the game. It loaded fined I had no problems until I clicked on the play game button and then the screen goes black and I get an error message saying that windows has completed an illegal act and freezes up. Could some one help me?

Do you meet the requirements for the video card?
Have you tried playing the game with background programs like antivirus, anti-spyware, screensaver, and software firewall turned off?

I was planning on buying this game on Amazon but I looked at the review and it said there was a major problem something like LADYSLUETH just described.

Can anybody tell whether or not this is a common problem with game? I don't want to buy it if it's just going to crash. frown

We need to know the system specifications for your computer, including what video card you have in your computer.

The reviewer on Amazon didn't have a good enough video card to run the game; they apparently had a video card with integrated graphics rather than a card with dedicated video memory.

Otherwise, I haven't read anything about the game itself being buggy.

The person on Amazon didn't have a good enough video card to play the game. It isn't clearly stated what video card you actually need. "DirectX 9 compatible" can mean a lot of things.

At least the person on Amazon found out they are making a patch, and he says he'll update his review after using it. If your video card is borderline, you may want to wait for his evaluation of the patch before buying the game.

I don't know what video card I have off hand but I haven't had any problem at all with the Nancy Drew games (I'm playing Castle Malloy now) and I assume that the Hardy Boys game will have similar requirements. I just wanted to know if there was a bug problem with the game. Since it sounds like there isn't one...I'll buy it asap.

Thanks for the help guys! smile

You should be able to see what video card you have on the Display tab after running dxdiag (Start button --> Run --> type dxdiag in the box and OK it. Or in Vista you can just type dxdiag in the Start\Search). The reviewer at Amazon mentioned what cards are currently a problem.

Thanks Jenny I went to the official website and they said that the game does not play on computers with intel because evidently intel has an integrated video chips which does not work on the game.

Intel makes motherboards. Their motherboards may or may not have integrated graphics, but with most motherboards you can add a video card if you want. The most recent Intel integrated chipsets are more capable than the old ones, and can even play some action games. But if Hardy Boys wasn't tested with Intel video drivers, it may not work with them. I assume that's what the patch they're making is for -- to improve compatibility with the more recent Intel chipsets.

Yes that's a video card.

There's an update from the ***Amazon reviewer*** too:
Quote:
They released the patch and it seems to work. I am having another problem with the game. The cursor is off about an inch. It makes it very difficult to play. They are checking into it. I have not seen anyone else who has had this problem with the mouse. What little I was able to play, it is nothing like moving around like Nancy Drew, for all of you Drew fans. Difficult and annoying, but maybe that had to do with my new problem. I will update again if this problem gets fixed.

I am not sure what he means by "nothing like moving around like Nancy Drew."
