I have just gotten Everlight and it won’t install. I get the following error:

Error 1309: Error reading from file F:\install\program files\JoWood\everlight\bin\game.exe. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I then get an option to Abort, Retry or Ignore

I have turned off the anti-virus program. I get this same message 2 different machines running Windows XP, using 3 different DVD drives. I also tried to copy the contents of the DVD to my hard drive but got an error when it tried to copy the game.exe file.

I took the DVD back to the store and got a new copy and get the same exact message. What would be the odds that there would be 2 bad DVD’s at the same store?

Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Jerry

I disabled AVG and went into the program manager to shut down any running components and still got the message.

I could not even copy the offending file from the DVD to my hard drive, all other files on the DVD I could copy.

I can't understand why I have had no problems whatsoever installing and running this game and I have AVG. I wish we could figure out what the common denominator is here.

I hope someone can help you, Jerry.

Marian, I don't either. Maybe your computer likes you more than ours like us. Do you have the free version?

I have finally gotten it to run by following the info on the bottom of this post

I wasn't able to AVG to totally shut itself down today, so I decided to go start the game from the game.exe file in the bin file. Well, it wasn't there--I know it was there because the first time I got the message, I checked. But it wasn't there today.

So anyway, I copied the game.exe file from the DVD to the bin file and it seems (cross your fingers) to be working. luck

lol It's just too weird for words, isn't it? I'm running AVG Free 8.0. I keep reading these threads about Everlight and AVG and it's driving me crazy wondering why I am not experiencing this problem. It just doesn't make any sense! headscratch

Wouldn,t it be a lot easier just to delete AVG and install it again after installing the game.

It would probably make more sense to uninstall AVG and use a different antivirus -- at least until AVG gets their act together again. But modern antivirus can sometimes be a pain to uninstall and you may have to seek out instructions for uninstall.

If you're using the same virus definition files and settings as everyone else, then no it doesn't make sense to me either.

Jenny, I haven't checked my settings for AVG, but I can tell you that all I did a few months ago was to download it and install it--so the settings, whatever they are, would be the default ones, I would assume. I check it every day and download updates whenever they are available, so I believe we can assume I have all the latest ones.

I uninsulated my AVG and everlight installed just fine. Installed the AVG again and the game wouldn't run so I got rid of the avg and tried to run the game guess what it wouldn't run.
Uninsulated everlight and AVG and now installing the game again.
Will look around for another antivirus program.
Richard

The easiest way around this problem, which is caused by AVG (and also Avast) thinking some part of the copy protection used by the game is a trojan, is to google for and download a cracked game.exe and create a "new" DVD with the cracked .exe replacing the old one (located in the BIN folder on the DVD). Then the game installs fine and as a bonus you don't need the disc in the drive to play. Illegal? Well, I don't care. In my view it's just another example of copy protection schemes making life hard for people who legally purchase their games while it doesn't prevent piracy one bit... Had the same problem and used the same solution with So Blonde by the way.
