I am thinking of loading The Hobbit on my XP. Do I need a patch for it? Some info on it please.

Hi flutist. Unfortunately, there is not much in the way of support information out there on The Hobbit for PC due to the demise of Sierra Entertainment and the less than stellar sales of that particular game.

There is a patch located at CNET Australia , but I can't say if it would apply to North American copies for sure or not.

Hopefully someone who has played the game will have some better/more information.

Bets, I've played it 5 times on my XP hard drive and have never patched it. Nary an issue.

As you can tell, it's one of my favorite games!

I should too, I got super stuck and couldn't move forward then the computer crashed. I lost soooo many of my games. Draclvr is good at it, I am not and always have to use my grandson. He is playing it again on Playstation 2.

Yup, loaded it on my XP Pro hard drive last night and played for a few minutes. I'm going to see if it will play on my Windows 7 drive too.

I shall await you in Hobbiton!

I use my gamepad for the WASD, E, CTRL, SPACE etc. and my mouse for direction. It makes life So much easier.

Of course, pick up all the crystals and coins you can. And make sure you get all the quests. Your Q key will tell you what you have to do.

Whew! I finally found it hiding in the back of my desk bookshelf. I was beginning to think I gave it away. I remember it being easy in the beginning, then harder as you go on. Watch for those "save stations" makes life easier. I have a gaming keypad, but now use my lighted gaming keyboard and the mouse for direction.

A trick for whacking things with your walking stick is to jump at the same time you go forward to hit them. It adds a bit more to your hit. Hope you are stocking up on rocks!

I don't think I could play this one without my gamepad.

Me neither Draclvr, I have tried it with a console type controller also, but one key wasn't programmed right. I was just playing and am looking for the hammer. I had to get out of the game for real life and found that the acrobat reader for the game messed up mine, so I uninstalled and will reinstall without it. Be back later.

Edit: Got back home and played for a while tonight and am presently being eaten alive by the Troll, been there, done that. My grandson says it is much easier with a controller. I call "Uncle" for tonight.

Have your walking stick equipped and just whack at them. Like I said, if you combine a jump with a whack and land on them, it will add to the strength of your hit.

Kat, can you try a gamepad?

I never thought I could do the keyboard & mouse combination, but after having to use it for several games, I find I now like it better than mouse only.

Give it a try. wave

Me, too. l4l. This "sorta blonde granny" was the same way. It was difficult for me with a keyboard, but after I got a gamepad, it opened up a whole new world of gaming for me. I love it...

That doesn't help me now. Where do I go after I whack the wolves?

Bets

Drac, I have a joystick someplace, would that work? What kind of a gamepad would you recommend?

Hawka said the joystick didn't help her much. Here is what I use... CyberSnipa Hawka recommended it and I could not game without it! My left hand is permantly attached, I think...

I'm sure there are other ones out there too.

After you whack the wolves, you head up some ledges. Keep your throwing rocks handy for the evil plants. Remember, equip with 2 and the press F for aiming.

I whacked the plants with my stick also, just love getting up close and personal.

I use the Snipa with the laptop now, I use this Merc Stealth keyboard for gaming on the desktop now and it is great. I see GoGamer is out of stock on it.

The joystick works, maybe mine just didn't have enough buttons, or I just didn't know what I was doing. I will try it again, somewhere, probably in the ReadMe it says you need 7 buttons.

After the wolves and plants, then you still have to look for the light, over river and dale, more plants, those nasty blue ones.

I finished that section yesterday and am now trying for the umpteenth time to sneak past the trolls. Couldn't play all day, sniff, sniff and tomorrow I must do errands and laundry.
