The game won't play. It seems to install ok, but when I click on the icon nothing happens. I am running Dell XPS 4 GB and NVIDA Geforce 8600 video card. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. I also have emailed ICEBERG Interactive asking for assistance. I noticed that another gamer posted that the game ran fine for them, and I have yet to find any troubleshooting websites that address my problem. Any ideas or help for me? Thanks in advance! :wave12:

If you have any antivirus running, you might try disabling it temporary while you try to start the game. If that doesn't work, you might try re-installing with the antivirus off -- just in case it's blocking part of the installation or blocking the copy "protection" the game is using. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Not many people have played the game yet because it's new -- so not much on the Internet from players. You have all the ***system requirements*** Minimum System Requirements For Dark Fall Lost Souls
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 - Vista - XP(SP2/SP3) Processor: Pentium® IV (or equivalent recommended.) Memory: 512MB RAM (1 GB RAM recommended.) Hard Drive: Video Card (graphics): 128 MB DirectX® 9.0C Compatible 3D accelerated video card, supporting 32bit (true color) color depth at 1024x768. Sound: 16-bit DirectX® 9.0C Sound Card. DirectX: DirectX 9.0c Additional: Mouse, Speakers, DVD-Rom Drive I guess there's a possibility that you're having a copy "protection" problem. Does the disc spin up at all when you try to start the game? Or does it not even try to start?

gaily, Wait for the techs to help you - just you know - it takes a while from clicking the game to start to the actual introduction of the game. Mine take maybe half a minute or more. So try and wait a bit.

Hi Jenny and MaG, I tried re-installing using a few different ways: including turning off my spy ware, WAITING for something to turn up when I click the icon, installing Direct X/not installing Direct X; trying to log on to the game from the desk top/from the start-up, from the programs and from the "computer". I'm determined to figure this out.
Your continued thoughts and/or inspirations are appreciated. This is just kinda weird as I haven't really ever had this problem with this computer. I can only wonder if it is related to Windows 7 although that isn't in line with what I have read and heard about. Guesses are even appreciated. :duh12:

You might try running Ccleaner on Windows and your registry after uninstalling to get rid of any traces of the game before you reinstall. I've had to do that with a couple of games before they would reinstall correctly.

Hi ALL, Unfortunately, Iceberg has not gotten back to me and I have been also unable to install this disc on my laptop. Fortunately, I hope, due to the generosity of a fellow gameboomer...I will have the opportunity to try a different disc in my machines and be able to determine whether the disc that I currently have is just defective or if there is a problem with Windows 7 compatibilty. (Two different brands - Nvidia geforce 8600/ATI MOBILITY Radeon graphics) of video cards...Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Professional respectively. I will report back.... Thanks again, Tomco. :praise12: Pay it forward, y'all gaily,

Hi all, Alas, No, I still can't get the game to work either on my laptop or my desktop. I even had Plumchoice guys trying to help me. CCleaned, uninstalled/reinstalled anti malware stuff...updated drivers; tried the new gifted DVD sent by a very generous boomer, "Tomco" (who apparently had an extra unopened copy and braved snow to mail it to me) The message that I get is "The Wintermute engine has stopped working." Interestingly, sort of, I also can't get "Green Moon" to run on my Desktop....which is a Download. On that one, it also installs, but won't ever open. That message says "Green Moon has stopped working." Green Moon DOES work on my laptop. (Radeon Video card) Mean while, I have played another game from disc (Chronicles of Mystery TOL) and have downloaded other games form Big Fish and other sites that run just fine. The other difference between the computers is Window 7 Ultimate (Desktop) and Windows Home Premium.(laptop) I have no idea if that makes any difference whatsoever. I am really stumped....and bummed. I don't know what else to do but wait and hopefully there will be a patch or something. I can't believe that I am the only one with this problem. I remain open to suggestions...and thanks for asking. gaily.

gaily,
I have Windows 7 and the game runs smoothly after a black screen that last looong time at the beginning, however I can't hear a sound as I say in another post here. Do you see the black screen at all?

Unfortunately I don't have the game or I could give it a try on one of my Windows 7 hard drives. I have 32-bit Ultimate on one and 64-bit Home Premium on another.

The message that I get is "The Wintermute engine has stopped working. Strange as it may sound, I have the exact same issue - but the the game does start. Try opening the Dark Fall Lost Souls Settings shortcut, check the don't show me this option and click Ok.

I'm playing the game on Win 7, 64 bit, with no problems. Win 7 came preloaded on my new computer -- could there be a difference between the upgraded version and the preinstalled version of Win 7?
EDIT: When I click on the game icon on the desktop I first get a small pop-up Game Settings window, then the Darkling Room logo and then the game starts right up -- no pause or black screen. The game appears to run without the disk in the drive.
