Hi Bob,
You only need concentrate on one padlock. Looking at the locks, take the picks from inventory and click them on the locks. That'll bring you into close-up with one lock only.
After turning the pick to each position you should hear a click and a "ta-da" sound - that means the position is correct. If you don't get the "ta-da" then you've hit the wrong spot and need to start over.

Hi abby,
The game itself isn't timed, and there are no puzzles with a timer ticking away in the corner - but there are one or two puzzles that require a fairly fast response to either activate or solve. You always get another chance with them, though.
Happy New Year to you too!

Where the walkthrough recommends you to save the game, it is only in case you make an error with a puzzle and need to replay that part, or, in the case of the game ending, provides the opportunity to play out both possible endings.
The sections which require a fast response are not difficult to get through if you consult the walkthrough and know what to do in advance.

sali, -You need the letter for Dowerton. It is E. - Then you need to check the 3 numbers for this station. You find it by going up to the crossbridge and look at the number under the emergency light right of the railway. - Then open the book to Great Western Railway and look at the pattern that corresponds to the 3 numbers you saw outside. - Enter E and the pattern on the board - then pull the lever.

Hi Haner, to GameBoomers. You've got as far as Gloria sitting in the "car" with you, and having the dialogue? The dialogues are random, but as you make your choices you should take note of these responses from Gloria, and match them with the line of dialogue: "Yes, I must not forget", or: "If only my life had been different". These are the correct responses which will help you through this sequence. Eventually through trial and error you will be able to match the dialogue with either of these two responses and Gloria will be healed.

Glad you got through, Haner. Hi Bubba - after Gloria crashes the car you do find yourself standing back inside the room ready to replay the scene. I think that's what Haner meant.
