I got the Encore version of the game and during installation, my McAfee showed me a virus message. The file is called Still.dll. I found another post on this site about something similar, but not for this file. http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthre...34865e2271c09e6 Is is just McAfee being mistaken or did I just get a virus on my PC? -Adam

Hello Jenny,
I tried the file and got a message that read: File is empty (0 bytes) and the scanner did not run.
Other files in the folder do not show this. Also the same malware warning pops up repeatedly on McAfee asking if I would like to quarantine or delete the file. My virus scanner has never reacted to a game file like this so I'm really nervous.
What else can I try?
Thanks for your help, Adam

I still think it's a false alarm. It may just be a "placeholder" type file or to do with the copy protection, or McAfee may already have deleted its contents or prevented it from installing properly. Is your version of the game the download version? http://www.encore.com/product.aspx?cat=&id=1674

Hi Jenny,
No I bought the jewel case version. The game runs fine and my computer seems alright. I think your right on the copy protection part.
If anything changes, I'll find this post and update it.
Thanks again for all your help, Adam

Adam I have the Encore version a two disc set. Disc one has a stilllife.dll file which is 840kb. I scanned that with my anti virus/spyware program and it reported no virus, no spyware. As you said Still.dll there is no file on either disc with that name. I am guessing you abbreviated. I then scanned both disc and the report came back as clean.
I also scanned both disc with an old copy protection program that reported there is no copy protection on the disc. That is not uncommon for budget re-issues to abandon copy protection. There is little incentive to crack old budget titles. I will add the program is old and may not be all that reliable.
I am using Zone alarm security suite which I have used for three years and never had a problem. in fact this pc is spy ware clean and never had a virus. I suspect the issue is Mcafee. I don't know anyone who likes it.
The original Still Life came with Starforce which is why I refused to buy it. The encore version does not have starforce that is why I bought it. The thread you refer to likely discussed a used copy with Starforce. That caused all kinds of mayhem.

If "Still.dll" is part of the installed game files, and is compressed in the setup files, it won't be visible on the discs. I'd agree it's a false positive, though; they happen with most, if not all, AV software, and McAfee is certainly no exception.
