If you have Win 7 Pro, you should be able to download XP mode from ***Microsoft***. You could also install software like Virtual PC or VMware Player and install XP inside a virtual machine.

XP has to be running inside of Virtual PC. Then you install the game through XP pretty much the same way you always have. If you're runnng Virtual PC in windowed mode, you have to make sure you're doing everything inside the XP window. Keep in mind that Virtual PC is not emulating a 3D video card, only an old S3 Trio video card. So it's not going to play modern XP games that require a 3D video card. It's a better choice for the older Windows 95/98 games that don't need much in the way of a video card. I'm not sure whether VMware Player has 3D video or not. According to ***eHow*** it does, but I've never tried it.

My older Nancy Drews, The Longest Journey, Keepsake, Post Mortem, Messenger, Scratches, and I could go on and on. I think most of those games would need a 3D card, or at least a video card with more than the 8MB of video memory of VirtualPC. The possible exception would be the very oldest Nancy Drews, which would probably run best under Windows 95/98 anyway. If you want to try VirtualBox, the download is here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/DownloadsYou'd install Virtualbox, then install XP inside of Virtualbox, the same way you would with VirtualPC. +_+_+_+_+_+ The instructions on the HerInteractive website Marian linked to could be summed up as: 1. Install the game to the User's Documents folder instead of to C:\Program Files 2. Run the game in compatibility mode with Windows 98/ME selected HerInteractive takes you through the procedure for doing these things step by step, but at first glance it looks harder and more involved than it actually is.

carlahelp, you might refer to the Win 7 and Games thread in this forum. All but three of the Nancy Drew Games worked fine in Win 7 with no tweaking for judith. Try playing them in your Win 7 normally and see what happens. Keepsake played perfectly and Scratches needs a change made in a file. All the directions to make the change are in the Win 7 and Games thread.
I would suggest that you try installing and playing your games in Win 7 normally first. We're having very good luck with many of them.

While you are waiting for the mods to help you out here, I would love it it you would try installing and playing Post Mortem in Windows 7 to see if it works. I could add it to our Window 7 and Games post stickied at the top of Glitches because I don't think we have that one yet.
If you'd rather not give it a try, I'm sure someone else will give it a whirl in Windows 7 soon!

Post mortem plays great. It started with a black screen but after a minute or so the game played well.
I tried Still life but no go. I tried Scratches -uh uh. I am goig to try The Longest Journey next. The Messenger plays fine also.

There is a fix for Scratches in the Window 7 and Games thread. The developer posted it on his website shortly after Win 7 was released. It's really simple to do and the game plays perfectly. Which version of TLJ do you have - 4-disk, DVD?? We've all been wondering about that one. Thank you and I'll add your games to the post. Have your tried playing Still Life in XP compatibility (different from your XP mode). Just right click on the game icon (assuming it installed) and select Troubleshoot Compatibility and follow the prompts. We've gotten several games to work that way.

Try the fix posted in the Window 7 and Games thread for Scratches. You just have to do it once and the game plays perfectly after that. Can't wait to hear what happens with TLJ...
