I'm having trouble running games on my new laptop getting this file missing report for d3dx9 33.dll. I've searched all over for a download, but all I find is free downloads for this cleaner or that one that scan, and tell me I have about 360 registry errors, and it will repair 25 for free. You know the rest of the story I'm sure. I have Windows 7/64 bit/ Intel Core 2 duo P8700/Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M Is it possible for someone to send me a copy of this file.................or not. joe

Yep. I did that and the game will launch now, but it gives me only a black screen. "Bioshock.exe has stopped responding". joe Edit: Thanks for your help Rushes. I appreciate it.

This is strange.. I played both Bioshock and Bioshock 2 on my 64-bit Win 7 computer with no issues at all.

Wouldn't this resolve itself by reinstalling the version of DirectX that came with the game?

Marian I downloaded (a) patch. Is there more than 1? Draclvr that's my luck. I haven't been able to play any games on it so far. I don't know Greyfuss. I can't even find the download for DX 9.0c joe

According to Microsoft the game is 100% compatible with either version of Windows 7. Windows 7 Compatibility Center I think GreyFuss is on the right track - Edit - It looks like the MS link refers to BioShock (version 2) - so the original may require some compatibility mode changes...

Still no luck. I've tried it again & again in every compatibility mode from Vista to "I don't know". I uninstalled it and reinstalled, and still no good. Can't think of anything else. joe

I finally got it to work by following your link InlandAZ and then this link. http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18590Then I forced dx9 mode with this solution: "With the shortcut as created above, right-click on it and choose properties then in the target box add '-dx9' without the quotes and with a space before it so the target looks like this: "C:\Program Files\2K Games\Bioshock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9 Then apply and click ok and use that shortcut to start Bioshock. You can turn off the Compatibility Mode if you just want to force DirectX 9 Mode." Thanks for the links, and all the suggestions everybody. I still have an issue with this new laptop. I cannot swing my avatar around while moving. With every other laptop I've had I could mouse around while my character is moving, but with this machine I have to stop moving in order to swing in any direction. I can turn, or side step no problem, but I just can't move freely while walking. I've tried setting the mouse sensitivity to it lowest setting but I still don't have free movement. Any suggestions? joe

Jenny I use the built in pad since I sit on the couch with it on my lap, and game. It seems to me that the HP computers had a smoother surface on the mouse pad. That may be why this one doesn't work the same. joe

I played the game twice with my gamepad and my Death Adder mouse. I cannot imagine playing Bioshock with a trackpad. I'd agree with getting a nice mouse.
