Hi Dutch,

I haven't played this one. The walkthrough states that there should be a full game manual on the disk, hopefully that will have all the info you need. If not, let us know.

Hi dogpenny, to move just keep right-clicking on the mouse to get the footsteps icon & click on where you want to go. If you keep clicking on it it will scroll through other useful icons e.g. door to exit from that scene. Hope that helps!

I HATE this game. I picked up the pen and put it with the paper and could not get it back into the inventory. I accidentally clicked on his thought for the desk and cant get rid of it. He cant exit because the thought paper comes up instead of the exit how do I get things to stay in the inventory? I right click and it disappears I think I have put it back into the inventory but no such luck. Any help is appreciated

Dutch,

If you are not enjoying the game, best to let go of it for a while. Maybe when you are in the right mood for it, you can go back and play.

I have not played the game. Let's wait for someone to help you here.

Hi dogpenny, it would be a shame to give up on the game because of the control system. It is very basic & the last thing you pick up you will carry around with you unless you go to the thoughts or inventory to pick up something else - it's a peculiarity of the game, but doesn't affect anything! To get an action to exit - right click until you get the footsteps icon & move it around in the general direction of the exit until a door icon appears & click on it.

You don't get to put stuff back in the inventory - just right click to get the hand icon & pick up something else from thoughts or inventory when you need to. Sometimes you may need to rightclick to get the eye icon before you can get any further. In the game scenes you always need to right-click to get the right icon for the action you want to perform. Hope that makes sense & helps!

Hello dogpenny. Being the creator of Diamonds in the Rough, I'm sorry to hear that you hate it. If however you are willing to keep trying, I would like to add to Chrissie's fine explanations that the Post-It (what you call thought paper) functions as just another inventory item, plus if you are using a mouse with a wheel you can use it to scroll through the thoughts Jason is "carrying". The manual may be helpful to you, and I'll be happy to answer any further questions you might have.

Now I AM embarrassed. I just meant I was frustrated with that darn pen. I am of the nature not to let a game defeat me and will keep trying until I get past the problem.

You have nothing to be embarrassed about. smile I deliberately used an old fashioned icon driven interface system precisely because I knew that most new players are not used to it. I wanted everyone to experience the fun we used to have in the first decades of adventure gaming. It's not as intuitive as the usual all-purpose cursor we are used to nowadays, but you will hopefully find that it can be more fun when you get the hang of it.
