Expect to pay more than $100 for both a good video card and a decent power supply. You do want better than what the computer comes with.

From ***here***
one of the reviewers says
Quote:
"Great PC to build on!!!" Just purchased this PC. Out of the box, it runs very well, pretty much plug it in and away you go. My goal was to build an inexpensive gaming PC and this is the perfect one to build on. I purchased the unit, then the next day I bought an ATI HD Radeon 5750 video card and an Antec 650Watt Power supply. Took about 15 minutes to install. Now my wife can play sims 3 at full settings and I can play Starcraft 2 at Ultra settings. All together I spent uner $800.

So at least it doesn't have a proprietary power supply.

Another person says
Quote:
Everything so far about his computer has been great. I read the reviews and decided to go to Best Buy and pick one up. I'm planning on using this for gaming, the only problem is the power supply is only 300W (for anyone who was wanting to know). But you can pick a 450-500W power supply for $49.99 most places, which I'm going to do so I can put in a nice graphics card.

So we know the power supply it comes with is only 300 Watts, and will need to be replaced.

My son-in-law does computer networking for a large company. I was telling my daughter that my old computer needs to be updated. They are hoping to come home for a visit in a month or so and can probably update it when they are here.

I was also telling them about this new computer (Asus Essentio Desktop / AMD Athlon™ II X2 Processor / 4GB Memory) and that it looks like a decent computer but needs a bigger power supply and better video card.

He has a wholesale source where he can buy parts and he wants to know how large the power supply needs to be and what kind of video card I should have for it.

He is going to get prices for me. If he can buy the parts and do the work, this might be a better alternative for me than trying to update my old PC.

Any recommendations for the powere supply and video card for this computer?

Thanks very much for all of the help you guys are giving me with this dilemma. What we do for our games!

Do you play adventure games and casual games exclusively or do you sometimes play an RPG or other genre that has higher system requirements than an adventure?

Then a 500 Watt power supply should be plenty.
And you could get an Nvidia Geforce GT 240 or ATI Radeon HD 5750 card that should play anything you want for the next few years. Even an Nvidia Geforce GT 220 or ATI Radeon 5550 or 5570 would probably be OK, if you don't want to spend as much.

Thanks for the info. I will pass it on to my son-in law and see what he can do.
