i don't see the characters, just the shadow that's under them. help!!!

Sounds like a driver issue, or possibly a video card that isn't supported by the game.

Click Start, Run (or press the Windows Logo Key+R) enter DXDiag and press OK. Press the Device Tab and post the information contained in the Device and Drivers sections.
