Has Sierra ever made a patch for this game (GoG bought by the way).

I get a "fatal exception" crash at the beginning of the Day 3, 10am-12pm time block (the "morning after" movie). It's always in the same spot, when Grace notices Gabe's awake and she starts to get up.

And just as I was REALLy getting into all that work with SIDNEY frown

LOVE this game. Hate this crash!

Sierra never made a patch.
There is a fan-made patch ***here*** (scroll to the bottom of the page), but I don't think it's for your problem.
It sounds like your "morning after" movie may be bad.
Can you get a save from after this part? There's a playthrough on Youtube that probably has the movie you'd be skipping.

I found an even better solution Jenny smile

I went on GoG and found a nice alternative. A Sierra "old-timer" chimed in with these 2 possibilities:

1- Either It could be a codec conflict issue, in which case it might have affected other movies in my gameplay, which it didn`t, thank goodness; He goes one to suggest temporarily renaming certain file extensions in system32 (shudder). Here's the link:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/gabriel_knight_series/gk3_cutscene_crash

2- The "bad" movies can be skipped altogether during gameplay and viewed using Rad Tools, which I did.

FYI, the short bit with Mose and Gabe in the hallway just after the faulty "morning after" bit seems to work just fine on my machine.

Does this earn me brownie points? smile Mmmmmmm Brownies *drool*

I will give you points. That solve you mentioned worked. I have the cd version of that game. The issue I had was wavy dark rippled lines through the videos. By making that change it cleared everything up. I believe there was a program out there that altered that file then switched it back for you automatically. But I don't recall where I saw it. Hendroz created installers to allow GK 1&2 to run in XP without dosbox. They work great.

GK Installers

You can also convert your GK2 6 cds to a single dvd with his program.

Great to hear that worked out for you oldmariner. I too noticed that when viewing the videos via Rad Tools they come out much brighter and the image is crisper. Wonder why that is.

Do you think some generous fan might have done a "dosbox-less" version of the Tex Murphy series? I'm thinking of starting that series next.

Thanks.

That might be the "Gabriel Knight 3 Renamer Batch File (GK3_BAT) file" on the sierrahelp page I linked to earlier in the thread.
