I'm trying to find a replacement ccoling fan for my Dell Dimension 5000 & don't seem to be able to find one.

The make & model number: Nmb-mat 4715KL-04W-B56 (with 5 pin adaptor) (12V 1.30A)

Do I need to replace it with the same make & model number that broke down in the first place! or please could you advise of a good substitute. My power supply is 305W.

There are several mail-order replacements available (see link below) -

Dell 4715KL-04W-B56 - NMB-MAT Cooling Fan (5 Pin Connector)

You can replace it with any 12 Volt 120mm case fan - Newegg has several to choose from.

Thank you for the links InlandAZ it's very appreciated! I couldn't find the Dell fan listed on their UK site? But I think I've decided to buy a different make as if I can use any 12 volt 120mmm case fan I am able to buy one locally.

I haven't seen any with 5 pin adaptors. How important is this - will a 4 pin do? I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to computer parts!

Do you have an extra 4-pin connector coming out of your power supply?

I believe the 5 pin adapter includes a temperature monitor to control the fan speed. A standard case fan will work, but it will run at full speed all the time.

You might give Dell a call and see if they can locate an exact replacement part - If not, your best bet is to mail order it. There were several available but I don't know if they'll ship to the UK.

Edit -

Here's a used replacement part on ebay.uk -

dimension cpu fan nmb-mat 4715kl-04w-b56 120mm x 40mm

Thanks Jenny100 - I don't know - I'm going to have to get more familiar with the inside of my computer!

But meanwhile I've followed your link InlandAZ for the replacement part on Ebay Uk & bought it. I saw lots on there earlier & was suspicious as to why they were being sold but the particular seller you've referred me to does have 100% rating so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thank you again Jenny100 & InlandAZ for your help.

I've bought many parts for my really old machines from Ebay sellers - but only those with good customer reports of course grin12

The ones I buy from are generally people who buy up old machines, strip them, test (and sometimes refurbish) any re-saleable parts and then offer those parts for sale at reasonable prices.

Glad you got sorted thumbsUp12

Thanks InlandAZ & Mad - the person I bought from was obviously someone who did test the components & actually cared so I would definitely use that seller again. smile

I just now need to save some bits & pieces from the computer I'm using onto a memory stick!

Also, any advice appreciated here! I installed Microsoft Office Suite 2007 onto the computer I've been using which is only licensed for 1 machine - if I uninstall it & reinstall it on my now fixed PC, will that be flouting the license agreement? especially as when I installed it the PC was situated at a different address.

A retail version of Office can safely transferred to another PC (just uninstall it from current PC first).

OEM Versions (those that shipped with the PC) cannot be transferred.

Thank you InlandAZ, that's reassuring!

What does OEM mean please? smile

When I bought my PC I paid a specific amount extra for Office 2003 which was shipped with it but with discs for. I wanted to uninstall this & give to one of my nephews - can I do that?

OEM means one that's from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (Like Dell or Gateway). Sometimes they have special installation discs that can only be installed on their own hardware.

So long as the disc doesn't state For xyz PC's it sounds like you're safe.

Thanks again InlandAZ! What I've got, I think, is just extra software I bought from Dell at the time so good to know that I can give it away to a good cause!
