Thank you so much Jenny100, yes! if I right-click on the file & choose 'save as' it works!

As for Ghost Pirates of Voojoo Island - I've just installed it to see - absolutely no problems with playing at all! I had uninstalled the ProtectDisc driver beforehand & looked to see that it had been installed again with the game.

So this is obviously not the problem with Black Mirror 2 - maybe I just had a faulty disc I'm now wondering?

If you're able to play the download version of Black Mirror 2, it does sound like your problem was due to a bad disc.

Glad to hear Ghost Pirates is working for you.

Unfortunately I'm not having any more luck with the download version smashpc

I downloaded all the files but when I tried to install it, it went so far then came to a standstill with one file my PC just wasn't having! I e-mailed The Adventure Shop but meanwhile decided to try downloading again using the Download Manager this time. I couldn't even install that it just came up with a warning that the set-up files were corrupted & to please obtain a new copy of the program! I've e-mailed this info to TAS. Maybe I did get a bad download or maybe there is just something in the coding of the game that my PC just doesn't like! insane

Have you been able to download and play other large games without a problem? Usually games should install, even if there's something about the game that isn't compatible with the computer. But a bad download can keep the game from installing. Unless you have an antivirus or software firewall keeping the game from installing correctly, I'm out of ideas.

I have downloaded a lot of games from Bigfish (including a few large file games) & have never had a problem with installation - yes, there have been a few games that haven't ran too well if at all but always the ones I have tried demos for first so just haven't gone on to buy!

Otherwise, I've only downloaded a handful of other games which involve a series of files (I tend not to use a download manager)& have never had a problem before - including Yoomurjak's Ring from The Adventure Shop. I have just heard back from them about my problems with BM2 - & hopefully they are working on it!!

I have McAfee antivirus etc which is pretty vigilant but I also suspect that some of the problems may be to do with Windows & some of the Microsoft updates which have interfered before with games. Then again, most games work & developers should be au fait with the 'components' of Windows & the main antivirus suppliers.

Thank for replying Jenny100, much appreciated & will let you know how I get on! smile

It's too bad you didn't download Sherlock from ***BigFish***. At least then you'd know the downloader worked with your system. I guess The Adventure Shop will have to help you with the download problem.

Hi everybody. I'm still having problems with this game, as in it doesn't play. I get the error about the DirectX adapter. I cannot find anything about
dist protection in my control panel. I have posted at dtp's site (it's mostly in German) and left a message. Can you suggest anything to help? Thank you.

BubbaJake,

It might help if you post the exact error message you're getting.

Gil.

Hi BubbaJake, if it's the 'pe17da5dca write err message' which I've continually had problems with, the good people here have explained that that is to do with the the copy protection on the disc. I got so fed up that I bought the download copy from The Adventure Shop which has a different copy protection - had some problems with that but they have been helpful & maybe resolved - will report back on that.

Meanwhile I've had an email back from the 'disc protection' people for the disc version requesting another DXdiag report as they seem keen to find out what the problem is! I can see that there is a possibility that I'm going to end up with a fully working download plus a disc that works! - to be polite: Murphy's Law! lol If I get anything useful back about the game then I will post everything that dtp etc have advised! So far it has involved a lot of Microsoft updates plus obvious ones to various drivers which so far haven't worked for me but maybe there are other more subtle ones I've missed!

EDIT: Even better, bubbaJake - email dtps support yourself & attach a DXdiag report along with your problems along with the specific error message. The more people that do this the more helpful it is to them for future games! (Well, that's the theory! smile )

If I'm too early not to be stacking - sorry -please combine mods!

Just wanted to let you know that The Adventure Shop were very helpful & I now have been happily playing the game for a couple of hours.

In case anyone else has the same problem - I originally downloaded all the files into a folder without using the Game Manager & have done this successfully for a few games but BM just wouldn't install properly. I then tried downloading the Game Manager but when I clicked on 'save' got a message to say that the exe file was corrupted & should ask for a new download source (or something like that!)

So I tried clicking on 'run' & found that my PC was blocking the connection which of course I unblocked & went on to install the Game Manager successfully. I used it to download all the files for the game but during that, as the GM came with a 'software informer' it also upgraded some software (which I thought may also have been necessary for the disc version?)

I've paid for the game twice!!! But I'm loving the game so far, pleased I can finally play it so completely worth it! smile

I will report back if I hear from dtp & the copy protect people if they have anything helpful to say for anyone having trouble with the disc version.
