Hi , I am hoping to get some help from you super knowledgeable guys.
I have £600 to spend on a laptop.I did some research and came up with a Samsung R580. Which it seems have everything I will need (being a gamer) 4Gb memory ,Webcam, DVDRW,Intel Core i3-370 2.4GHz.Thats the techno stuff. One thing that puzzles is, it is called a Notebook not a Laptop . I am concerned that it will not play any of the up and coming games with all the needs that go with them.
What is the difference Notebook-Laptop?
I have never had a laptop before so I need your help.
Kind regards
Maggsie

Hi Maggsie.

There is a fine line difference between the 2 but it's also not a hard core difference because of the customizations that are available these days.

When we think of a Notebook, we see a small lightweight system that is very mobile, and still provide the power we need to do our jobs and have enough power for games.

When we talk about Laptops, we see a larger heavier system. Although mobile too - we generally use these around the home or take on vacation to keep in touch with our world and play games too.

Both systems can be purchased with more than enough power in RAM and Video - as the one you are looking to purchase - and both will handle the games we "adventurers" like playing.

The Samsung R580 did get pretty good reviews and seems to have all the power you will need to play these games.

I hope I answered your question to some degree, and I am sure you will get other boomers responses. The folks on this site are very helpful.

There are several models in the R580 line. If you're considering an R580-JBB2, be aware it's configured with an Intel GMA graphics accelerator. Other models use an nVidia graphics processor.

If the primary use will be gaming I'd avoid Intel - many games have issues with them.

Just to reiterate what others have said...
The most important thing to look at when buying a laptop for gaming is the video card. Most modern laptops have everything you need for gaming EXCEPT the video card, so the video card is the most important spec to look at.

WOW. Thanks a huge bunch you guys I knew you would steer me right. I have taken everything you said on board and look at what I will need especially the video card. I have been saving £1 coins in a Dream Pot for the last two years and this is now full with £730, so that is how I can get my laptop LOL
Thanks again.
What a great site this is.
Kindest Regards
Maggsie

Hi Again, I have just been looking up all you have given me and the Samsung notebooks all have Intel processors. I have looked on the extra tech details and they state
Graphics : nVidia Geforce 310
Graphics Memory 512 Mb gDDR3
Is that what I will need?
Sorry for being such a clutz.
Regards
Maggsie

I bought a customized laptop in the UK at the end of 2008 where you specify what you want to be included. You simply choose from a dropdown list of all the various components. If you are interested,I can let you have the contact info.
