What kind of games do you intend to play on it? If they are games requiring 3D video then you'll need a laptop that has a dedicated 3D card like ATI Radeon of NVidia GeForce. The Intel GMA will only play 2D games.

Wait - I'll see if I can find you the answer for your particular GMA card.

It will probably play most casual games.
I wouldn't depend on it for an adventure game, RPG, or other genre though.

Thanks, cruise02 , and Jenny

It doesn't look to promising frown

I was hoping to play adventure games only...

Hubby is buying it for work use....I had planned on maybe using it for my games as well grin

Found this on the specs of the unit.. Intel® GS45 (GMA 4500MHD video controller) What is that a card also?

You can see a comparison of Intel GMA graphics here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA

Intel Graphics (or video controller) isn't really a separate graphics card. It's a graphics chipset built into the motherboard.

"Dynamic video memory" means it uses shared memory -- i.e. it "borrows" system memory from the rest of the computer. This is a lot slower than dedicated video memory and some games will not work with shared memory.

You may get some adventure games to work with it, but don't get your hopes up too much. Most adventure games will want either a Geforce or a Radeon video card with dedicated video memory.

Or you could wait for a bit and see what comes of the Intel Sandy Bridge. They are supposed to start shipping that again.

I suppose this might be an opportunity to ask if any of the guru's here has an opinion on potential of the Sandy Bridge design and how that might work on adventure games.

Before it was taken off the market many of the computers with the Sandy Bridge architecture were surprisingly cheaper. If the graphics are as good as they say it may open up the possibility of upgrading a PC for some.

Although a world away from being a guru, I'm quite excited about the Sandy Bridge architecture. I have to commend Intel for taking such quick action on the problem, but it sure is unfortunate that it happened at all. I've seen where several people on a couple of tech forums were back up and running within a week. I'd dearly love to see the graphics first hand.
