Has anyone upgraded to IE 9 ? I am hesitant to do this because I remember when my computer was upgraded to IE 8, I had problems and it took awhile to get it straightened out. What are the benefits of 8 over 9?

Thanks.

I installed RC1 about a month or so ago - no issues here.

I installed the RC about 2 weeks ago with no issues. I installed the final full release this week. No issues at all and I'm finding I actually like it! I'm not sure if it will make me leave Firefox, but it's the first time I've actually liked IE...

If I may ask: what is RC?

Thanks.

RC = Release Candidate.

Microsoft releases several versions to Beta (and MSDN subscribers) for testing. When it reaches the RC1 stage, it's generally what gets distributed as GA (General Availability).

And keep in mind that IE9 is not available for operating systems prior to Vista. If you are still using XP, you cannot upgrade to IE9.

If you have Vista or Windows 7, you can "test drive" IE9 ***here.***

Thanks for asking that Chief. I didn't know what RC was, either. I have a Hotmail account and everytime I log-out, it wants me to upgrade to IE 9. I have Win7 but since I had trouble on my older XP computer when IE 8 was released, I have been afraid to upgrade to 9.

What is the difference between IE 8 and 9?

Thanks.

Try out the "test drive" I linked to above to get a feel for it. It's very fast for one thing.

The official website for hyping... oops! I mean explaining all about IE9 is here:

Oh no! I just downloaded it and installed it and the first thing that popped up was script error and that was something to do with chrome, (which I don't have or at least I have never downloaded it as I use Firefox as my primary browser), and BFG toolbar. The browser will not load up nor can I get it to reinstall as it says I already have a newer version. Any ideas on what to do? I have Win7 64 bit and this download was for that. Should I uninstall it and try to reinstall? duh

No, IE8 is gone. i guess I will try to reinstall it.
EDIT:
It only gives me the option to download IE8 for Vista. I have 7, will that work?

EDIT: (Again!) I figured out how to uninstall the IE9..it was masquerading as an add on. I wonder if I disable my BFG toolbar if it will install properly.... woozy Maybe another day... It's time for a game! wave

Lotus777,

With the trouble you have had, it makes me even more nervous to upgrade to IE9!

Just shift to Maxthon 3 instead smile
It's based on the IE core, but has a lot more features and is faster than IE could ever be.

It shouldn't be gone. If you remove the IE9 update, it should revert back to the prior version.

You're right Inland. I just couldn't locate it until I got rid of the 9. What do You think about Maxon3?

I've never used it, so I really can't comment. IE has always been my preferred browser, although I do have several others installed.

Some bench tests conducted by ZDNet showed IE9 to be even faster than Chrome - not an easy feat as that browser is really fast.

Ooh had to tell about a new feature in Maxthon 3.
We all know about Ad Hunters (block adds) - but this time they added something new. laugh

In the right corner of the status bar, you can right click the Ad Hunter icon and choose something called "Block Ads by click"
This will somehow put the actual webpage in the background and have all ads stand out separately - which you can then left click once and then in the end save the setting, so all those ads will never again show.
