Have you tried right clicking the game icon and selecting "Run as Administrator?" I've had to do that with a few of their games.

Why don't you delete the game and re download it again. Maybe it misses some files. I downloaded Gabriel Knight 1&2 a few yrs.ago and didn't have any trouble with it. Is this the game you downloaded Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers Richard

A crazy thought here - you did install the game from the file you downloaded, right? After the installation, all you have to do, is play the game from the icon You do not need to go into dosbox. If you already know this, then please disregard my post, lol.

Misslilo - Thanks Yes I did, it was then throwing up the DOSBox error. IAZ I get a MS error message concerning DOSBox - DOS emulator I took a screen shot of it but it doesn't seem to tell me anything else, I will uninstall the game again!! and try again, I did try to contact GOG and fill in their form but have not had a reply and am not sure if the question was even sent because the browse boxes which I completed did not show up?? Oh and by the way what is DOSBox and where do I find it in XP 'cos I tried looking for it but to no avail If you can post the image or provide a link to it, it would help us understand the error. I've run DOSBox for years and have never seen the OS complain when it starts.

If you upload to http://imageshack.us/ you don't even have to create an account. Go to http://imageshack.us/Click the Browse button on the webpage and locate the file you want to upload. Click the Host It button. After it loads (it may take a minute to finish uploading the file), copy the Link it gives you for the picture and paste the link into your GB forum message.

Not much help there What do you see if you follow the first Click Here link? Edit - If the error creates a minidump it would help to see the exact Bug Check Code, Also there is a similar (loosely related) thread on Vogans. It suggests re-enabling video hardware acceleration. Have you by any chance lowered it in DXDiag? To view Minidump information, use WhoCrashed - WhoCrashed Download The above will only work if the OS actually crashed - application failures are not examined. So, unless your OS crashed - don't bother with it.

Can you post the content of the entire file (the one named at the bottom of the viewer? DOSBox is installed; otherwise you wouldn't see the error. Maybe Jenny will have better luck finding a similar error - I can only turn up a couple of them, and none match your error exactly. Edit - As a second thought -- what happens if you download and install the stand-alone version of DOSBox? You can find it ** HERE **

As a matter of interest I uninstalled the game and reloaded and I am getting the same message... The problem may be with DOSBox and not the game. Do you see DOSBox in your Add/Remove Programs list? If you do, try uninstalling DOSBox. Then make sure the DOSBox folder is gone (delete it if it's not). Then run a registry cleaner after deleting the DOSBox folder. In other words, make sure it's thoroughly gone and hasn't left any garbage in the registry that's causing errors. You can also try installing the game (and DOSBox) from Safe Mode, when no antivirus or anti-spyware or software firewall program that you might have will be blocking aspects of the installation.

Jenny I do not see DOSBox anywhere in Add/Remove, I turned off my virus guard (Panda) and everything else and back up when installing the game.
IAZ Im not sure how to access the file at the bottom of the report I will have a look in C drive and see if I can find it. I did find that stand alone version of DOSBox on google but was unsure of downloading it in case it caused further problems. I will dowload it and see what happens.
Right I have installed DOSBox as per instructions, still the same error message - what now?

Have you tried Jenny's suggestion of installing in Safe Mode?

I seem to think I restart the computer and press something? when it first comes on? Try pressing the F8 key when the computer first starts to boot. That should get you a boot menu.

When you use a stand alone version of DosBox don't you need the actual cd to play the game, not a download from GOG.

Jenny, Inland or somone who knows about stuff like this, take a look at this thread in the GOG GK1 forum and see if you think this is the answer for monbron. Gil.
