I have a Canon Pixma MP520 all-in-one printer.
Just replaced 2 of the ink cartridges
then printed maybe 3 b/w pages,
and it will no longer respond.
Power light doesn't come on, etc.
Just purchased a new desktop system,
so this would be an extremely bad time to ask hubby
for a new printer too.

Have you checked all the cables and plugs to be sure they are all connected properly? Even if they are, unplug everything and plug it back in.

Ok, we tried that again.
unplugged everything, waited an hour or more,
plugged it back in and it powered right back up.
Tried using it today, it it sounded like it went thru the routine of
re-setting itself after we replace an ink cartridge, etc...
Printed 2 pages, and got an error message "Printer is off line".

Canon site states it's compatible with my new Desktop

Does it still work with your old computer?
If the problem only happened after you got the new computer, the new computer may have bad drivers that are screwing it up.

Does the printer normally shut itself down when it's not printing to save energy?

I went to the Canon website and found there are drivers for Windows 7. Have you tried download those drivers or are you just using the drivers provided by Window 7?

I've got a Canon Pixma printer too but not the same model. I thought I was going to have to buy a new one when I got my new system but was able to download updated drivers for Windows 7 from Canon - it now works like a dream!

I went to the Canon site, but was unable to find a download for an up-dated Driver.
I did, however, find something that said my Model
was compatible with Windows 7.

Check ***here***.
Choose which version of Win 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) from the dropdown box.

My daughter has looked at it for me
and says I need a new power cord.
Acting like there's a short in it.
Have one on order from Amazon,
not OEM but couldn't find one that was.

Power cords are interchangeable.
No need for a particular brand.

Hopefully the power cord is all that's wrong with it.
