I recently bought (from Amazon.ca) and installed on my PC, the adventure game: The Black Mirror (version 1.0) and when I try to launch the game, a small screen with the heading of SterForce Copy Protection System appears on my screen and tells me: You have to reboot the computer to complete the installation of The Black Mirror protection drivers.
So, I reboot, but the same message apears again and again and again bringing me back to square one everytime, still unable to launch the game.
Is there a way to solve that problem without having to dowmload anything from StarForce ...... as the comments I have read on the internet concerning that software, are not very positive.

I had the same problem with the Black Mirror 1. And like others have simply given up trying to install it. I agree with protecting games from illegal copying, but if I have a legal game I should be able to play it.

Interesting info on the recommanded thread: The Black Mirror no CD, but it is not working in my case..When I try to open the downloaded file that is suppose to solve my problem, I am told that: The file cannot be open because it is either a not suported file type or the file has been damage.
Anyway, base on what I have read on other forums concerning the same issue, the more I read about it, the more I think that it can't be fixed.
I think that I will have to forget about it.
Thank you anyway.

If the file is in rar format then you need winrar to open it.
I can download it for you and send it to your email if you want. Are you looking for the english no cd patch ?

Or 7-zip will also decompress rar files.
After decompressing the rar file, you must copy the files to your game folder.

I had to do the same thing to get the US version of Black Mirror 1 to run, at least I think it was this version. In Denmark, it is legal to use a noCD patch, if the game do not play as intended e.g you can't play it.

Adventure gaming is fun smile

Hi venice
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I had computer problems. I will send the files over in a couple of minutes.
Here are the instructions from the site I got the no cd patch.

Play Instructions:
•Install the game - Full Installation.
•Extract both File Archives to the Game Directory - Overwriting Existing Files!
•Play the Game!

Let me know if it works for you.

EDIT....... My email program won't let me send the file. Download winrar HERE and then install winrar, download the Black mirror file you want and it save it to your desktop. There are 2 files for the english version. Click on the Black Mirror files you downloaded and winrar should open.
Highlight the files using ctrl A and select extract to (at this point I made a folder titled Black Mirror and placed it on my desktop)and extracted the the 2 sets of files to that. After that's done copy and paste the files ( from the folder you made) to the Black Mirror game directory and when it asks to overwrite the files click YES. It sounds more complicated than it actually is. Let me know if you need any help ok ?

Thank you for your patience with me Cathy1.
Your instruction were quite a chalenge for me, but by going slowly, I finally made it.
I just played the game for a few minutes to be sure, and it looks OK.
My next step is to learn how to make a save with the game. I was unsuccesfull at my first try, probably because i did not go far enough in the game.
If I like it and am interested to buy The Black Mirror II, willl I face the same problem with StarForce Protection System.
Again thank you very much (from Montreal, Canada)

Hi venice
I am so happy for you. I don't think you will face the same problems with Black Mirror 2. If you do just ask here and we will try and help you. To save the game you need to wait until all of the beginning has finished. When you leave the room and have the key, move the cursor to the top right hand corner, click on the gears.Choose save game. Double click on the first slot and hit your backspace bar ( to clear the entry that is there). Type in the name you want to save your game as, and hit the enter key. Hit enter again and your game should save. You can also find a walkthrough HERE. Have fun. I loved this game.

Cathy a fellow Canuck.
