Hi, everyone.

I was thinking of trying to dig up my old Thief 2, and play some fan-missions again. Has anyone of you played these missions (hagatha)? I'll probably start off with the Lord Ashcroft series

Also, you may be interested to know there's also an unofficial expansion here (it seems to be quite solid work!):

I've had some trouble getting it to work on 64-bit Windows 7 though. I guess I have some tweaking to do. The splash screen shows up, but the game executable never starts.

I love the Thief fan missions and have played nearly 100 of them. Good choice on the Lord Ashcroft series. Anything by Christine is outstanding. I've played Thief 2X. It is quite good.

Have you had any problem playing the fan missions other than Thief 2X in Windows 7? I am using XP but will soon have to go to Win 7 and am concerned about the fan missions. I can give you a list of my very favorites if you like. Hagatha was a great help in suggesting some.

I haven't even managed to get T2 started, the original that is. I will need to delve into the ttlg forums to see what I can find. As I said, the executable never starts running. frown

Sure, a list would be great. Thanks! smile

I thought you were referring to Thief 2X not running. Have you tried changing the ;safe_texture_manager in the file user.cfg? I had to do that when I got a black screen.

I've checked and there doesn't seem to be any special help for Win 7 in the FAQ. I did find a couple posts that might help.

Drizzt,

Sorry I missed your post - haven't been here for a while.

Yes, I've played many very good fan missions in the past few years, mostly selected by cruising the threads at TTLG. I'm due for a downloading session very soon, in fact; haven't downloaded any for about a year, so there should be some new great ones. Some of the series missions are fantastic - Elizabeth Bathory, and Dracula Reloaded, for a start. Some of the newer, larger fan missions are better than the originals.

I actually bought myself a laptop with XP on it, just so that I could play the the first 2 Thief Games (as well as my other old faves like Deus Ex, BG and PsTorment) without any hassle. On the Internet I also found a copy of bundled Thief games that will run on XP and Vista (including Thief Gold), but no idea if they would run on Win 7.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
