I downloaded from Steam and I am getting a 'out of range message' when I start to play.
I have tried different resolutions - 1680 x 1050, 1280 x 768, 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 - all with the same result, my refresh rate is 60.
I have a widescreen monitor and O/S Vista. Any ideas please... thanks in advance.

the resolutions don't seem to change, I had the same problem but it was my monitor I had to manually set it to wide & then everything went full screen.

Really? That's awfully low for a modern game.

"Sync out of range" means your monitor doesn't support the resolution/refresh rate combination being asked for. But sometimes all you have to do is set your desktop for what the game uses before starting the game using the "Show all modes" option when you select resolution.

the reason I know the resolution is that my resoution doesn't change back after the game finished which is a real pain,thats with xp but with win 7 it changes back.

I kept on changing my display card to different resolutions which made no difference then started fiddling with my monitor. Thought it was with hdmi but then I realised it was the same with all games in xp unless there has selections in game options. Must have hit the wrong button on my monitor.

Solved this, in case others have the same problem, the solution is to make sure the gameengine file reads 1024 x 768 and refresh rate 60. For some reason the refresh rate was set at 0. Works fine now, thanks for your help plumgas and Jenny

where do you find the game engine file please as im having loads problems
