Hello
I am trying to play and old game in win XPcalled Dark Side of the Moon, I was able to find out that someone created a patch to make the text visible, but when I go to the link, apparently it has been pulled. Does anybody know where I might find the patch? Thank you for any help
Dorf

Hello
Thank you very much for the welcome, I am fairly new to forums, so please excuse if I make any mistakes. Thank you traveller for the link, but the patch must have been taken down, as I have tried this link several times"http://www.mediafire.com/?4hevvidc7bvcl03". I appreciate your reply to my question

I think the original post from Winterfury has been archived here
http://archive.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3837

However the link to the riched32.dll file no longer works.
The link on the AdventurePoint webpage seems to redirect you to adfly ??? before redirecting you to ... nothing. But the original link to the riched32 download is on the Adventuregamers archive and clearly the file has been removed.

I do have the riched32.zip (downloaded from the Adventuregamers link years ago) that I intended to extract and compare with the riched32.dll in a Windows 98 install. I never got around to doing that, but the file is probably OK since VirusTotal.com found no malware in it. I've uploaded it to my dropbox account in case anyone wants to test it out.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nm11mlkgmv0pyvu/riched32.zip

It's not a patch. It's a file included in Windows 98 that was missing from XP and later, as described by Winterfury.

Darn, I should have known something was up when the file appeared to download even though I didn't accept the download manager on the Adfly page.
I am so sorry, dorf, but if anyone can help you, Jenny100 can!

Gil.

Hi Jenny100; As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I'm installing all the games I play on xp. I also have Dark Side of the Moon. So that being said, I do have a couple of questions:
When installing DSOTM, should I install it in 98 compatability?
Also the Riched32.dll that you put up, (this is going to sound like I should step away from the computer)but where do I put it? should it go in the game file or somewhere else. thanks Judy

I don't think that would hurt, though I don't know if it is necessary. On XP SP2 and SP3 you probably want to avoid installing in C:\Program Files and install in your My Documents folder instead -- or at least some place other than the protected C:\Program Files.

The instructions are on the two links earlier in the thread -- Winterfury's post #11 in the ***adventuregamers archive thread*** and Greyfuss's quote in the ***adventurepoint thread***. Specifically...
Quote:
Open the folder where you installed the game, then open 'bin' folder and put the extracted file in there. If, for example, the path for your installed game is
'C:\Program Files\SouthPeak Interactive\DSOM'
you should put the extracted file (riched32.dll) in the folder
'C:\Program Files\SouthPeak Interactive\DSOM\bin'

Thank you Jenny100. I installed DSOTM in compatibility win.98; then downloaded the riched32.dll. When I started the game to see if it would work, I had a trailing cursor. I came out of the game, & went into system tools & disabled directx. Went back into the game & it plays perfectly.
