GATORLAW AND SHERLOCK HOLMES: The Silver Earring

Now it can be said - another in the string of accomplishments of GameBoomers' gatorlaw - Laura MacDonald:

Laura-gatorlaw has worked with Sergei, Project Coordinator of Frogwares in drafting the English version script of the trailer and game itself - Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Silver Earring.

Is there anything Laura can't do or not do well?
We'll wait with anticipation to hear Laura's words said by Sherlock, Watson and other game characters.

I'm glad to hear this. The strange comments like "It's... obvious" in Mystery of the Mummy didn't exactly help the game. And Laura is a good writer.

Thanks every one. I was busiest with all this in Late September through January, so there were some really late nights - BUT it was wonderful.

I can't think of two better people to work with than Sergei and Wael Amr at Frogwares. :kiss:

Sergei and I spent some great times flipping back and forth scripts, one liner dialogues *lots and lots of one liners, 213 to be specific * in game written materials, cut scenes - all that great stuff.

Wait til you see this game - the cut scenes are so involved, amazing story - well of course I am somewhat biased and we will have others review these materials for GB.

But, I have been eager to say how honored I am to be associated with this wonderful game.

How absolutely marvelous. I've admired Laura's writing for a long time and have always wished to see her do something like this. Thankyou Laura... You've made my day.... my week... my year.

So what exactly did you do Laura?

You're like the writer? You helped translate for the English version? Does that mean you speak more than one language?

More details...

A ton of writing

I would get scripts of cutscenes, one liners or dialogues and there are uhmm a lot of characters more than 36. In game documents, letters and such.

I would look at the translation from French and at the original french too. I would re-word it so that it flowed with the intended plot, was consistant with Sherlockian victorian english - just rearrange the whole thing or rewrite it.. Then I would get with Sergei ( Sergei Geraschenko, The project Coordinator for Frogwares, Silver Earring) and go over the changes. So we would work on it. Line by line, passage by passage.

I had input on other things to do with the game. Well when you start doing one thing - you get involved. It is still ongoing - though we are getting close to nothing left to edit. I am working on some final documents, dialogue and materials now.

I will tell you that as I worked the scripting I twisted and turned with the plot the first read through. It is a very devilishly twisty tale. One of the best Sherlock stories I have read. One of the main reasons I got so quickly and deeply involved with this team and this game was because of the brilliance of the original story for this game. I think Holmes fans will be thrilled as will most adventure gamers. A great deal of care was taken to insure the game was consistant with the tone and structure of the books. I had tons of "sherlock Holmes phrases on papers all over my office and other notes to cross check.

I am also a "real fan" of this character and the related works. And have read my personal copy of the "Complete Sherlock Holmes" at least 6 times cover to cover, over time. So we were all fans working on this game.

I do think that the way this story winds it way will surprise many if not most. I was reading through scripts and thought I knew what was what several times and boy was I wrong!

More surprises in store as we will soon have:

• news about a US publisher *cough* ,
• a special developers cafe
• and a surprise guest reviewer for the publishers demo.

You will never guess who is writng it - but it will be great

Well I finally got around to reading this post. Have been meaning to for quite some time now. Laura is an amazing writer, she will not let us down, that I know for sure. She is an avid adventure gamer and will have nothing but the best to add to any game. I look forward to this game like none other. I hope you get the recognition you most certainy deserve you are a extreamly talented writer.
