OK.. as we said before, if you have gone in the room with Pibody, then you have already gotten the key and used on the door to that room. I can't tell you how many times I got killed here the first time I played this game! Please use the walkthrough to get through this part: Before taking the key from his jacket SAVE YOUR GAME! As soon as you pick up the key a large vampire bat will breakdown the door. Turn around from the bat and shoot the door lock where Pibody was leaning on.
Open the door and go forward once into the room, turn around and move the dresser that is on the left side of the door to block it off from the vampire bat. Now you can take your time to explore the room safely. There is much to do in this room to vanquish this first bat. Just follow the walkthrough.

What happens when you try to load it? As Marian said, I would try loading the most recent of the other two games if it won't work. You've never really answered us about whether you may have loaded a game from the last time your played this one.

I don't know which game you want to load. What do you mean it took you back out? When you clicked on the game save you wanted it to load, do you mean it took you back to the desktop?

I think you are well on your way to playing this game! Make sure to explore that fireplace thoroughly! The walkthrough is going to help you a lot now.
I will play along with you, so let me know how it goes!

I'm confused... if you were able to load the game, then you should be able to play it.

The walkthrough says: Pick up the chair in front of the fireplace and put it below the round boarded up window. Look in the fireplace. Get the other knob and the poker right of the tiles. Have you looked for the poker to the right of the tiles? If the problem is that the game is too dark, have you tried to brighten up your monitor? Otherwise, a video walkthrough is probably your best bet if you still can't find the poker.

The poker is in the fireplace, but is very hard to see. The first time I played this game on an old CRT monitor, I was playing in the dark most of the time! A woman on the old The Adventure Game forums was playing with her daughter under a blanket so they could see something!
You REALLY need to be following the walkthrough step by step in some of these places because it can be dark unless you can follow Marian's suggestion to brighten your monitor.

Isn't it in the available save slots? They are arranged by the day you saved it.
