how do i close the fireplace vent ? and can she exit the room if the vent is not closed ? thanks

The walkthrough just says to close the fireplace vent. Since I have not played the game and can't see the screen you are looking at, there is no way that I could possibly know where exactly the vent is. Have you tried running your mouse cursor over the entire fireplace area?

Since MaG does not elaborate as to where the manhole is, you are probably just missing a hotspot. I would cursor over the screen carefully and see where you might have missed it.

thanks for that info .there is something odd , i did get the wire by manhole , very hard to see it in invantory , got the wire cut up , got fish with old newspaper. now what do i have to do to get back on track ??? i know i have to get the the fixed ladle back to where sylvie got it . please help me get back on track. this is getting hard ..

Did you read over the walkthrough step by step until you got to this point? That would be your best bet for figuring out what you might have missed.
