I think my mouse is giving me a problem. Many times lately when I try to highlight multiple cells in a spreadsheet, when I let up on the LMB it will only keep the last cell highlighted.

Today, I am having trouble with it in a casual game I am playing where you have to hold the LMB and drag to move something and I have had to use the "skip" button because my mouse won't cooperate.

I switched the mouse out but that didn't help.

I Googled about it but I'm really not getting anywhere with it.

Is this a wired or a wireless mouse? Are you saying you tried a different mouse and had the same thing happen in both places? If that's the case, then it probably isn't the mouse.

Regular wired logitech mouse in Win 10.

Yes, both of them, same problem.

So, the problem is not the mouse then.

So, spreadsheet first. To highlight multiple cells, I first click on a cell, press the Shift key and then the last cell and everything in between is highlighted. Or I click in a cell and hold down left mouse button and drag the mouse. And neither of those is working for you?

Have you tried plugging the mouse into a different USB port?

I had a bunch of hits searching for drag function not working Windows 10. This is a recent one.

Argh! I was doing something wrong in this 2nd puzzle in the game and I cannot go back to the other puzzle since I skipped it, but I don't see how I could have been doing something wrong in that one. It was a checkers type puzzle. Click hold one piece and drag it over another piece to an empty space.

As far as with Excel, I cannot test that out at the moment as it is currently working. (Note above I said "many times" not every time.) I will check it if it happens again. I've never used the Shift key for highlighting so I can not tell you if that would have worked or not. I always click hold drag.

No, I haven't tried a different port, so will try that also if / when the problem comes back which I'm assuming it will.

Thanks. I'll update at some point later.

Did you try the fix I found in the search for "drag function not working?"

Well, I tried it in the game and that is when I found out I was doing something wrong in the puzzle.

I did not try it in Excel yet because it is currently working as it should be. When it doesn't work again, then I will try that.

Good then! Let us know if it happens again since my search indicates this is not uncommon.

So, the mouse will work fine for a good part of the day and then I guess it gets tired.

I tried the tip in the link you provided but it is only good for one time of dragging, meaning everytime I want to highlight several cells on a spreadsheet I would have to do that extra step of hitting the escape key. It is not a real solution. I also tried a different USB port but that didn't help anything.

The worst is not the excel sheets but using scroll bars is a problem and playing solitaire is also.

You could try the tips from this site: I would jump to #4 first and see if that helps, good luck:

Note: the link above somehow needs to be copied and pasted, don't know why in this case

Thanks Starcom but guess what. I can't highlight it to do the copy and paste because of my mouse problem. Maybe tomorrow.

Well, I was able to get it by using the Shift key but I am afraid to "uninstall device" for fear it will never come back. frown I'm even having trouble getting the emoji screen to open. I'm wondering if the last Windows update did something to mess it up and am hoping the next update will fix it.

I was going to suggest going into your Device Manager and uninstalling the mouse. Then reboot which will pick up the mouse and reinstall it. Just make sure it's plugged in when you reboot. Right click on the white Windows icon in the lower left to bring up a list where you can find Device Manager.

I wouldn't think TWO mice could have issues, but I guess it's not out of the question. As I told you this appears to be a fairly common issue as when I did a search for "drag and drop not working Windows 10" I got a ton of hits.

Yes Drac, it seems common after some Windows updates.

Maybe I'll try the "uninstall" later after I go through all my daily internet things and / or get tired of the mouse acting up.

I did try the "uninstall" last night but that didn't do anything as far as I can tell.

Yesterday morning I had a Windows update and so far, so good. Almost 2 full days without a mouse problem.

Let's hope it stays that way. You suspected from Day 1 that might be the problem. Fingers crossed for you!
