Hi all
This year's take on syd's thread takes yet another different tack, but is undeniably Boomer.
We hope you enjoy.
Merry Christmas
wave12

‘Twas the night before Christmas. But not here and now.
It's still only January, and as we plough
through the vestiges of our New Year resolutions,
we ponder on what will be the attributions

for this year's syd poem (yes that is how it's known).
But now we’re in May, how the year sure has flown!
Where did it go, but what’s more what’s become
of the work we intended but didn’t get done?

(Don’t beat yourself up, there is plenty of time,
Christmas is way off, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Take a deep breath, have a drink, then look back
at the last several months, and begin your attack!)

So I did. And the very first thing that stood out
was that what we call allen keys here and about
have another name in their home town. Insexnyckel
is what they are called. Which really does tickle

our funniest bone (and so long as it's hex,
the key will still work, be it simple or complex).
Other things happened - OB became True Blue,
Mad shared a roundabout story, and you

(meaning you Trail Mystic) spoke of the most dire
of wolves that are now, and no longer expired.
Lex kept the music thread moving along,
an excellent source of an excellent song.

Baldur’s Gate 3 got a good working over:
Karlach, Drow Ranger, Elven Rogue and Beserker,
Miranda and Ethel and pointiest sticks –
The latter deployed made Astarian sick!

We started a new photo gallery as well.
Connie and Winfrey among mademoiselle
who posted a pic. BET was another,
hagatha too, and Mad and Aretha.

As well as some blokes, with their dogs and without.
Orion and Soot, and then Lex and Sureshot.
Robedits as well. Then Leanna popped up,
as did flotsam, and ChrisMM having a cup

of the Munichy spritzy stuff. Wouldn’t we all
want to be there enjoying and having a ball.
And last but not least was mbday630
bedecked in an excellent jumper most purple-y.

Then something took hold of oldbroad’s computer
and fiddled with stuff, just enough to annoy her.
But not quite enough to be obvious mayhem.
The answer still begs, it’s a curly conundrum.

But don’t mention One Drive! A drive diabolic.
A life of its own creates carnage shambolic.
Emptying files, moving stuff willy-nilly,
(who would design such a thing quite this silly?).

And Carol Reed 20 shot out of the gate,
a New Year's day staple we all contemplate.
Or if it's not all then it's certainly lots.
So thanks to Mikael for all those snapshots.

But now we’re in June, which is summer up North
yet is winter down South, and it moves back and forth.
(What on earth has that got to do with anything?
Nothing at all, but it adds to the colouring

in of the story. The details and such,
that we love in adventure games so very much.
I get it, but let us get back to the ode.
So now we’re in June, which is where we plateaued).

Boomers had birthdays (as they always do),
but so did Gameboomers, a hullaballoo
of a day. And the breakroom turned 18 as well.
Donuts and bagels, and no doubt the smell

of a dark Kona brew fueled the wild celebrations.
As did some penguiny perambulations.
(How good would it be if the Christmasy song,
had penguins included, instead of the throng

of all of those much lesser avian breeds?)
Meanwhile on the dark side, where the succubus feeds,
there was talk of a remastered System Shock 2.
A cyborg midwife will be coming for you!

And Tim joined the fray on the casual side.
Another dog lover along for the ride.
A neighbour of Ana’s, which helps those frustrated
by where is the corner most naughty located?

A spooner July then came trundling along -
less and more, part and whole, quickly headlong
into cot and hold, heavy and light, white and black.
Pandora delivered, while others attacked

all the puzzl-y puzzles that she and the mods
put up for the fun of us. What are the odds
that you might get a puzzle you just cannot solve?
For me there is one sort that does not involve

the remotest of answers, despite being common.
Nine rebus pictures, and none of them gotten
a hope of my very own elucidation.
Not even with hints of the representation.

But now we have moved into August. The birthday
of horses down under, and also the entrée
to Nancy Drew flickering, clearly annoying
for Melia. Bluto was also deploying

the call for help over on glitches. And elsewhere,
the watching and reading and listening fanfare
continued to draw the attention of many.
Murderbot viewing was surprisingly funny.

Coma by Robin Cook warranted reading,
‘old but still worth it’ was how it was trending.
The new Old Man’s War was much anticipated.
John Fogerty was somewhat celebrated.

Drummerboy posted a picture with drums
and a very fine moustache. A boomer still runs
a Pentium Vaio with Win 98.
(plenty still think it’s a system so great).

And now as we write we have come to September.
Neyyah came early. Which triggered a render
discussion of preference, for 2 or 3D,
launched by the Belgium based tpfc.

One or the other or don’t really mind?
All of those answers we tended to find.
Story and atmosphere, that was the thing!
It makes our adventure game obsession sing.

Then MaG had a birthday! The venerable dame,
the peerless of peers. And then in that same
month was Beasong, and Kaki (the sister not brother)
as well as Leeana and also Draclvr.

Rog had one too, and so did Aretha,
along with the Urbanist of all the Worriers.
And so many more, way too many to mention
All told for the month there are one-hundred-seven.

(An interesting fact you might know or might not -
Five of our boomers are all that have got
a day of their birth in September alone.
The rest share a day. I wouldn’t have known

if you hadn’t now told me. So thank you for that.
You’re welcome, and while on the subject, let;s chat
about which day the most boomers share? It’s the First.
Eight boomers into the world this day burst!)

And HOPAs and HOGs and Big Fish were a thing.
Dying for Daylight got me wondering
why it wasn’t completed? What’s that all about?
It needs to be finished before it's let out.
'
Except perhaps not, and it does sound intriguing -
A vampire Dahlia is sun potion seeking
to enable her kind to come out after dark,
and … (no, no more revealing of the story arc).

A Nancy game poked its head up, a Ghost Dog
(a dog not a cat, which left no one agog
because dogs are the best, as most everyone knows.
Nancy amongst them, she patently chose).

Then out of Shanghai came the newest of members,
the newest as at twenty-two of September.
More will come after, but here and right now
spacedeer has the honour, and takes with a bow

the moniker hashtag 23138.
So what will October bring? Not long to wait.
It's just over there, coming right after Tuesday.
Why don’t we rest until then? Yes, I do say.

Except that DocPaul came back into the fray.
A squiggle enticed him. What more can we say
beyond welcome back? Which is what people said.
He was quite chuffed. Now let's focus ahead.

Which we did, and October appeared as it should.
But while on the subject of squiggles, we could
take a look at what happened. A big Lego block
was the first to be shown. And then, quite a shock,

came a very large cat and a broken stone bench.
(hold up, we need to move back to the clench-
ing by Curly of yet one more glorious trophy.
Where does he keep them? They now number 90).

Now back to the cat, and a fat one at that.
Except that I’m fluffy not fat. And yet splat
went the bench, and Ozempic received a big plug
as well as the trophy - DocPaul got the mug.

A large loo came next, a most regal of thrones.
Big bums or little bums? No throwing stones
at the where's and the why for's, cos size doesn’t matter
despite what you hear from the incessant chatter.

Training the potty said Ladiest K
The belle from Orleans wondered if they
were a wide load a-coming? Who can possibly tell?
Grouping the poopee said rosy Michele.

Then even more cats! A most juicy one now.
Mandarin orange. (But I’m wondering how
these non-dogs keep appearing, cos way up above
we agreed that a dog was the breed that we love?).

But back to the fruity cat, aka fruitigami,
according to Scarlet the Dragon. Then funny
things happened elsewhen, at a time in the night,
at 9.47 (I think that is right).

A D.C.O.M reared its head! To be clear,
an event ID 10016 appeared,
and caused an initial consternation or two,
until sage advice said not to take in the view

from the thing that enabled the view to be seen -
it only confuses, it’s not what it seems.
You’ll think there is something wrong when there is not.
(More dodgy Microsoft stuff we have got!!).

Perhaps let's just move to November to see
what the new month provides. I know that for me
it will be an exciting 4 weeks and 2 days.
Let's take a look and see what might amaze.

Which we will or we did, quite depending on where
we are looking from - forward or back, here or there,
or perhaps an entirely otherly universe.
(that’s it, that’s enough, this is one very silly verse).

But like the best plans of those mice and those men,
things didn’t go as the plan did intend.
Real life got in the way, as it does,
and November came and went without a buzz

or a shout, or a why is it so very hard
to set up a tablet? And don’t disregard
the optic most fibrous from being a thing,
that needs some more basic in-depth explaining.

And Death On The Nile caused unhelpful glitches.
But now its December, not long until Christmas,
so drawing this to a conclusion is needed.
But not before railing that, far from succeeded,

the Big Fishy failed with its upgrade improvement.
At least for a while - let's hope there’s been movement
and things are now fixed. But what’s that I see?
Those darn cats are back! Yet they’re hiding from me,

and taunting and mocking my dog admiration.
(Enough is enough! Let’s call a cessation.
Feline or canine, let's all just agree
we all love our pets with unwavering glee).

Which is a good place to start ending this ode,
one which I hope has highlighted and showed
that whatever we do here, whatever the source,
you will find a welcoming caring discourse.

There are only friends here, which clearly is why
we all keep coming back. And if we drop by
now and then, or more frequently, its all the same -
boomers will help and support where they can.

So in the best Christmassy spirit of cheer,
let's all raise a glass, and toast to the year
that has gone. And the boomers we lost on the way -
our thoughts are still with you, wherever you play.

A new year now beckons, but what will it bring?
Finding that out is the enticing thing.
But here and right now, as we every year write,
“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night”.
