Hi Dianne, I just recently replayed this and recall there is not a third golf ball. Place the 2 golf balls and fishing sinker in pouch and use it to whack open the storage box (already in inventory) acquired from Aldred's father's cottage. You will acquire a "key" item. Hope this helps you progress.

Michele is right, but you might not have the storage box yet. The chest you mention is not the same. If you’re still having problems, tell us what the journal says, and we’ll tell you what to do next.
