Running Vista I would imagine that the PC meets the minimum specs, but it could still be an issue.

Post a DxDiag report and we can take a look at it -

Click Start, Run (or press the Windows Logo Key+R) enter DXDIAG and press Okay. When it completes press Save All Information, and choose a location (your desktop is fine).

Open the resulting file (Dxdiag.txt) with notepad. Press Edit, Select All followed by Edit, Copy.

Paste the content into a reply.

Really disappointed... Just installed BM-2. When I try to play the game, I get the initial Black Mirror 2 logo, then it crashes to desktop. Im running XP/sp3 with NVidea G-force 5500. Could it be my Video Card is inadequate for the job?

I think you need at least a 6300 card. Do you have the boxed or downloaded version. Check the box (if you have it) for the specs.

Requirements*
Intel Processor - Pentium 4 1.5GHz
AMD Processor - Athlon XP 1500+
Nvidia Graphics Card - Geforce 6200
ATI Graphics Card - Radeon Xpress 1100 128mb
RAM Memory - 1 GB
Hard Disk Space - 0.5 GB
Direct X - 9

* System requirements displayed are based on recommended system requirements and should be used as a guide only.

Thanks Cathy1. Looks like I've came up short in the video card department. Unfortunately, my mother board wont support higher than a g-force 5500, so Im looking at a major upgrade. Someday.

macmac, I'm curious why your motherboard won't support higher than an Nvidia 5500.

For instance, here is an Nvidia 6200 with the old AGP interface which only needs a 250 watt power supply for $45. ***Nvidia 6200 at Newegg***

Posts in an earlier thread said the 6200 won't work. What gives? I'm concerned because my video card is a 6200. Will it work, or not?

According to the specs Cathy found, the 6200 will work. You may have to reduce graphics effects in the game options though, since the 6200 is the minimum card in those specs.

Cathy, I'm TRYING to play the game on an XP. Will downloading another DirectX help in my case? I tried contacting them per the 'troubleshooting' portion of the manual and they couldn't be found.

Hi BJ
What OS are you using ? I don't have the game yet.
I tried the german demo on my XP computer and it worked like a charm. What problems are you having ?
What are your system specs ?

Hi Cathy1. I think I might be posting on 2 sites (not sure which is correct). I was trying to play on my XP, but gave up for the Vista (laptop, yeeech) It loaded completely, even the DirectX, BUT when I tried to start the game I got the same error about the adapter. I was wondering if I could load another version of DirectX or am I just sprinkling in the wind? (so to speak).

I have no idea about Vista. I don't use it. Are you playing the downloaded version or the boxed version ? When you install the game make sure your antivirus is turned off before installing. And if you installed in program files and it dosen't work try installing in your Documents and Settings folder instead.
Vista comes with Direct X 10. Have you downloaded and installed Direct X 9.0c yet ?
Having both on a vista system won't hurt either one. It's recommended to play games.
You can get it HERE.

I laid out $39 for the boxed version and regret every moment of it. I have never experienced such disappointment in a game. I heard Vista came with DirectX 10 so I tried not installing the game's version, but it still didn't work. You mean downloading DirectX 9.0c for XP? I haven't tried that and would really like playing the game on the desktop instead of the Vista. So, I guess I will give the game one more try and I will get back to you on how it works out. Thank you for your help.

Thank you Jenny, for your response, the error was that DirectX could not initialize the adapter (or something like that). I've given up trying to play this game.

If the game is making calls to DX 9 services - then it must be installed (even if you're running DX 10 or higher).

The naming conventions are completely different between the versions, so no harm will come of it.

Try reinstalling, and allowing DirectX 9 to install.

That was the error I got too, but it worked when I went to the Game CD and found the DirectX folder and installed from there.

Inland, I've tried it with and without, even with both DirectX that came on the game disc and a downloaded one from the Microsoft site posted here at GB., on my Vista and XP PCs. Literally NOTHING worked. The closest I got to playing the game was on the Vista, and that one did load the game DirectX, THEN told me it couldn't initialize the adapter. I've tried loading every way I could think of and those suggested here. Thank you everyone for wading in and trying to help me get to play this game. I think I want to sell it, but I don't know who I could sell it to in good conscience.

I posted the following where you posted about the "error" message concerning the "adapter". I'll repeat it here and it might help someone with the same problem.

I went to BestBuy and talked to one of the people there and bought a new Video Card (an AGP ATI HD 3650- seems they've changed the numbering system for ATI VC's).

I also checked and found my Win98 computer has the 400 Watt Power Supply and the XP has the 300 Watt Power Supply so I swapped the power supplies between the two. Playing on the XP computer with the 400 Watt Power Supply now.

Game now plays fine. The box for the HD 3650 says a 300 Watt power supply is OK.

I didn't do it......and if I did I'm not guilty!

What brand is your HD 3650, Billybob?
The Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 I checked needed a 400W power supply.
(requirements at bottom of ***this page***)
If yours works with 300W, it would be a good one to recommend to people who can't upgrade their power supply.

Hi Jenny100 smile

When I had my Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 fitted (as an XP machine upgrade) the engineer stressed I also upgrade my power supply. And he fitted a 500W because it cost very little more than the recommended 400W and gave me plenty of leeway thumbsup

Cheers.

It's an ATI AGP RADEON HD3650. There is probably a different one tht's similar if you can't use an AGP card. Black Mirror is playing with no hitches. laugh
