gatsby while I've never, to my knowledge, downloaded anything form Frogwares, I do know if there is even a glitch on the line during a download the entire download can go to la la land.
Sometimes when you can't download something it isn't the site that's the problem, but all the nodes your signal travels through.
When you get onto the web, you first hit your host server, the company/organization you pay a monthly fee to. That server then hits another server, which hits another server, and so on until the site you want is reached.
Any glitch with any of those nodes will throw a wrench into any download, unless the site you're downloading from preforms a CRC--cyclic redundancy check. Which is a fancy way of saying it checks the download to make sure it is accurate. If not then it resends the download that didn't pass the CRC.
Do you download at any particular time of day? Is your provider a phone company or cable TV company? I ask these questions because the type of service provided by cable TV companies usually is different than that provided by a phone company.
Most cable TV providers provide service over coaxial cable, which uses frequencies to provide service. This means a city block of users can be connected to the same main coaxial cable. And if very many users get on-line at the same time the signal degrades.
Phone companies, on the other hand, have dedicated lines that go only to one house. Their service is limited by the type of equipment in their central offices. But you don't have to worry about someone within the block you live causing the signal to degrade.
So, if you download say around the time school lets out, and your service is by cable TV, the signal may degrade because the kids are home and on the net. If it's after supper than it may be mom and/or dad on the net.
The phone company gets a bit trickier, because their equipment works off timing clocks built within the equipment and placed within the office. Usually, only so many people can access any piece of equipment. And because of this hiccups can occur when more than allowed try and access the equipment.
As with cable TV providers, try downloading at a different time. Not in the morning, right after school or right after supper.
If either of these suggestions don't help, do you know someone who is knowledgeable about computers? Family member, friend, co-worker? Ask them if they'd have time some evening to try and help you with your downloading problem. Perhaps with their help you'll finally get to the bottom of your downloading problem.
If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

" I have contacted Customer Support but I am not too hopeful that they will help me (from previous experience). " That doesn't sound right !! Whenever I contact Frogwares Support I get a reply within hours - sometimes sooner - offering immediate help. I did so just today. They definitely seem to care about their customers so I hope you DO get help I've downloaded several games from them over the last few days. Not "big" adventures, just the shorter casual ones. However, they've all been fine. And I don't use any kind of download manager. I just click on the download button. Good Luck. And I hope you get sorted soon

gatsbygirl, what is the error message you get every time? Knowing that might help someone who's good at fixing things.

gatsbygirl, Since the experts seem to be under the load of snow that dropped last night <g>, I'll take a stab at it. First, I think I'd reboot and see if that takes care of things. If not, since the error message says to try reinstalling PhysX, I'd do that. Nvidia has the latest version of it here. Best of luck, Gil. In other words, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. The game just won't load because the program that loads it isn't there.

Gil, Well, you get the hero award. That was it! I needed to download PhysX. Don't know what PhysX is or what it does but I downloaded it. Usually the game installs things you need like DirectX etc so it never occured to me that I needed to download another application. Game is activated and I will start playing it as soon as I finish the ones I am almost finished playing. I will probably be sorry that I went to so much trouble because I have heard that this ia a particularly hard SH and I think that they have all been hard Thank you very much!!!!!

You are so welcome. I was pretty sure downloading PhysX again couldn't screw anything up since it was coming directly from Nvidia but I'm sure glad to know I was right!

Aw, shucks, thanks, Homer6. That's nice of you.
You know, if that error message had been worded a little better, I doubt that gatsbygirl would have had such a hard time. Telling her to "reinstall the program" is easy to misinterpret as "reinstall the game and your problem with PhysX being missing will be fixed", especially as they'd already referred to the game as "the program" when they said it couldn't start. It would be better if they'd say specifically "reinstall PhysX". According to me, anyway. <g>

"What is PhysX and what does it do?" Overclock.net has the least confusing explanation, which ain't saying much. <g> I just accept the fact that it has to be there for the game to run. You have to prioritize things and my remaining little grey cells tell me that figuring this out is way low on their list of things to understand. Gil.

"What is PhysX and what does it do?" It basically offloads the calculations to either a Physics Processor or your Graphics Processor (if no PPU is available). This allows your CPU to work in other, non graphics type instructions at the same time.
