The time has finally come!! My question is since I do not know what I am going to do with the old one is there something I should do erase the harddrive. I don't do banking, etc online but I do a lot of shopping online & have passwords, etc. Is there a program to erase stuff from the harddrive.

Many thanks for all the help I get from GB

Sylvia

Also, for some reason I seem to have trouble getting my login stuff to stay & you have to keep sending me a temp password which in my senility I seem to lose. I go to edit in my profile & put in my stuff but either I'm doing something wrong or....

And Mome, make sure you have everything off the old hard drive before wiping it. We moved to a new computer and have the old system set up in another room so we can retrieve anything we find we missed.

It will probably stay there for a few months before getting cleaned.

KillDisk (linked to by Jenny above) is one of the best I've ever seen. It's also very easy to use.

Mome, you can use this also - it's Boot and Nuke. just d/l it, burn it to disc, boot the computer and it'll wipe the drive automatically.

Boot and Nuke d/l

I vote for killdisk. We used it exclusively when I worked for the state as it was the most thorough.
