Hello there.

I don't know if I should be posting this here or even at all! Thing is I have been having a bit of a problem with the Adventure Shop,I downloaded two games a while back and the first was great downloaded and played well, I enjoyed it. The second game was a different kettle of fish all together. When I tried to install the game, it kept coming up error. I mailed the Adventure Shop to report this. I waited ages before there was any reply at all and when it did finally come it was a computer generated standard mail with a load of technical jargon that I did not understand. All about sending screenshots or some such. I mailed saying I did not understand the reply and received ages afterwards the same standard mail as before. The game was a "cheapy" so I just gave up. Now I know you will think I a mindless idiot, but, some time later tempted, I sent for a bundle of three games I got the activation keys of all three but only got the downloads for two. Again I tried to explain my problem , again I got the standard letter! I will be the first to say this is probably all due to my own ineptitude but I would really like to find out if there is a mail box to which I can send my problems to a person who will read the mail and respond with the help I need. If anyone can help with this please let me know.

As in any other site like Big Fish or other sites - the best thing is to get hold of their support via mail.

I know that they check this site and I can flag them to your post.

I would recommend checking your account in their site and there you should have all the downloads that you bought.
Under or beside that game title should be your activation code.
You can either redownload or use the activation code stated there. luck

---
If there is anything in the instructions in your account that you do not understand - ask and I can open my own account and check.

Thank you, I had a mail this morning about the first game that would not download, asking for my "command", (wha....t is that, another name for order?) proof of purchase, or other. Nothing about the missing game in the bundle of three. Maybe later eh? I will in the meantime do as you suggest and look at my account at their site. Thank you for your time and patience.

Keep us posted about checking your account, luck

The support people needs your e-mail address and password to access-check your account before they can check about the bundle you bought.

okay, will do. Just going to look at account now. Don't hold your breath as I may be some time!

Well that took seconds literally! I am hopefully installing the third game of the bundle as I type! I have also set the "non starter" to re download only one other prob which I will set about once again mailing about. I will keep you posted to how it all comes out. I should have no problem with the bundle game but may have installing issues with the non starter as I have already used the installation key, and my son says you can only use it once soooooo, wait for my call.

Well so far all went well till i needed to install the game I put in the key I have it seemed to accept it but I was then asked to register, I have already done this but I obeyed. When it said to finish a block came up saying there was a problem. I just came out of it saddened. All of a sudden the game started to play! I waited patiently for it to finish and......nothing! The palms were blowing in the evening breeze the torch was lit and the waterfall playing softly in the background. All the options were there waiting for my command. Except that nothing happened when I clicked. I could not even shut it down! I had to use my task manager to remove it. Please what is going on?

Looks like this time its your computer.
You already downloaded the game.
You can either ask the support at the site or post at Glitches.
Try turning off your computer, wait, turn on and play. See if that hard boot affects whatever you clicked or entered. luck

I will now move you to Glitches Forum. This is now technical problem.

Hmmm...
I got Still Life from GOG and didn't have any trouble with it. But I was using XP.

You could try the suggestions from Alex Borisov ***here***. In case the site disappears or the link changes, I'll quote below:

Still life is a pretty decent, albit a bit dark, adventure game from 2005. As all games it runs fine on XP and like most games it fails to run on Vista (who cares) and Windows 7.

NOTE: I’m running Win7 64bit. With any luck this will not matter for 32bit users.

Googling around will give you a bunch of forum posts, but the general consensus is that you should try the 98 compatibility mode and if not then run it in XP. The problem is that the game either wont start, start and never progress past a black screen, will throw and error or else will hang after you start talking to the cop in the first scene. Turns out there is a simple way to make the game run perfectly (I’ve finished it and it ran nice and smooth, without a hitch).

As windows still hasn’t fixed some of the issues with compatibility mode, you cant just right click stilllife.exe and change the settings there. For some retarded reason you need to create a shortcut first (nice Microsoft, real nice). After this you need to do the following:

* Right click the shortcut, properties and select the compatibility tab.
* Change the program to run as WinNT 4.0 (not 98 or xp as these WON’T work).
* Then check the box ‘disable visual themes’.
* (Unnecessary?) Check the box ‘disable desktop composition’ (to ward off evil spirits).
* Lastly check the box to run this program as an admin (since windows still doesn’t and probably never can have a decent security infrastructure that would allow you to run programs and games without running them with admin rights).
* Apply and OK. Now you can run the game.

Have fun smile I’ll post an update if the same settings apply for Post Mortem (prequel) and Still Life 2.

As for Ankh 3, make sure your video card is adequate to run the game. According to ***Steam*** you need a
Quote:
Graphic card from Radeon 9800 / GeForce 5800 with 128 MB memory or better

If you have an older video card or have a video card with less than 128 MB of discrete video RAM, that might be why the game froze.

Thank you very much for your time and advice. I am using XP as would not have vista in the house. I have successfully loaded and played Ankh, and Ankh: Heart of Osiris. I only received two of a "bundle" of three games I ordered. I was directed to go to my account and re download. This I did,but the problem I described happened when I tried to install the game. I was asked to register again, and when I entered the key sent with the games it was as described above! Not frozen just not obeying my clicks. I will try to follow your instructions for Still life. Thank you once again
