Can anyone name the highest spec adventures of recent times please as they have let me send the old laptop back but want a list of games I wish to play to advise me on a suitable one

Ritchiesbabe,

Tell them you want to play The Witcher 2.
So, it's not an adventure game; tell them you're branching out. smile
It's got fairly high specs, I think, so I'd go for it as an example.

While waiting for the experts to give you their opinions, I recall that this game gave some gamers problem because of the system specs.

- Testament of Sherlock Holmes here

You can also check the forthcoming Crimes and Punishment here.

I'd guess the upcoming Sherlock Holmes game (Crimes and Punishments) at Recommended settings (not with everything turned down in game options that can possibly be turned down). Frogwares is using a new game engine with more realistic graphics, which will have higher requirements than Sherlock Testament (which already had high requirements). Unfortunately I can't find any system requirements for Crimes and Punishments yet.

In my experience, what's listed as "Recommended" is actually more like what I'd think of as "Minimum" requirements -- i.e. without sticky cursor problems after you turn down every game option that can possibly be turned down. "Minimum" can mean barely playable or only playable if you have a lot of patience, depending on the accuracy of what they list as a requirement.

Here's a sampling of requirements from some (fairly) recent games.

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=6017
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=9125

Just for comparison, here are the specs of Witcher 2
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=860

Traveler has a good idea -- give them an example of a game that has greater specs than what you think you need. You don't want to spend money on a computer that can barely limp along at minimum specs.

I'd ditto Testament of Sherlock Holmes as a good test.

Also Crimes and Punishments. I've played a very early build of it and it made my graphics card sweat and froth around the gills.

I double ditto this... Give them Metro Last Light as the kind of game you want to be able to play in addition to Witcher 2.

Now have a choice of 3 to pick from http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v120/ritchiesbabe/ebay/laptoppics.jpg which would be best there's not that much between prices really

Both of the GPU's shown are basically entry level type processors - while you may be able to play many games, you'd probably have to tune down the in-game graphics settings.

Reviews:

AMD Radeon HD 7640G

The AMD Radeon HD 7640G or HD7640G is a processor graphics card in the Trinity APUs from AMD. It is the second fastest version and is featured only in the A8 series. It is based on the VLIW4 architecture of the Radeon HD 6900 series desktop graphics card and doesn't offer a dedicated graphics memory.

AMD Radeon HD 7470M

The AMD Radeon HD 7470M (sometimes also still called ATI Mobility Radeon HD 7470) is a laptop graphics card for entry level to middle class notebooks.

I don't mind if I have to tune the graphics down not all that keen on the graphics anyway. I just want a pc where I can get the games to play really. I don't want to spend anymore than £500 on them you lot must be spending loads on them if you have the graphics on high.

Given the two choices, I'd probably pick the 7640G processor. It has a wider memory bus, and apparently does have discrete memory.

I can't see any image in the Photobucket link - just a gray square. This is assuming the games even give you the option to turn graphics options off or down. If they don't, you won't be able to play the game. However, I think the 7640G would probably play most adventure and casual games for now. Are you not able to find any of the laptops listed in that link I posted in your other thread about the top gaming laptops under 500 pounds?

What you're running into is why I don't game on a laptop.

I just can't find any in stock anywhere of those gaming laptops these ones are between £404 and £420 I will try and write the full specs later when I'm on the pc at the minute I just want a laptop obviously if I could come into some money I'm sure if I had another £400 to spend I could get a much better one but short of a lottery win that wont happen.

Thanks, Jenny. I see 2 have Windows 8 and one has Windows 7. But the video card is the most important thing here... as Inland said, go for the 7640G video card. It's not the greatest, but I'm sure it will play most of your adventure games, plus it fits in your budget.

Ok I will take your advice you sure it won't matter about that one only having 4gb DDR? I just can't afford more my hours have been cut again now and we are in a desperate situation in uk. I mean I've applied to places I've previously been accepted for a job but just been turned down, make no mistake its a fight for a job here at minute :-( why anyone wants to come here is beyond me.

Don't get me started on benefits managed to get a sanction for not looking hard enough for a job when I had a part time one I just can't get another cos 200 after each one so I've been told.

I actually had a çome on from a well off guy once when I was doing my papers and leaflets too bad they didn't want me delivering to his street. I can't think why the guy wanted the free paper mind you his exact words were I've seen you for a while now how do I get you on my street. I felt like replying pay me £6.19 I don't get why he was coming onto me tho, maybe he liked fact I was doing minimum wage hard graft job. I never saw the guy again but I should have broken rułes and delivered him a free paper. My money worries could have been over.

Ritchiesbabe,

You're not alone.
Things are really bad here, too.
The country is going to hell in a handbasket and our elected representatives don't care; they're sitting pretty, unlike the rest of us in the lower 99%.
I wish you the best and hope things turn around for you.
For all of us.

In the meantime, enjoy your new laptop and try to get your mind off your troubles when you go adventuring.

Gil.

I definitely need to drift after getting told I didn't pass Asda online personality test after previously passing magic interview. It's no wonder people get stressed out and turn to drink or drugs cos its demoralising not having enough to do. They try tell us there's jobs but its awful to be scratching about in a fight for the few there are. Made me laugh one job has basically finished now yet they won't pay redundancy cos they probably can't afford to but I can still say I'm employed for a reference. They just told me they intend on giving me leaflets to deliver in near future but if things don't pick up no one wants to advertise. I'm actually forced into mandatory work activity at the minute its ok but it's definite punishment being made to do 30 hours for 4 weeks with no chance at a job from it at end of it. I'm trying to see if I can at least get a qualification out of it.

I have a question. I have a new iMac with a Nvidia Geforce GT 640M 512 MB. Is this a good gaming card?

It should play most adventure games (as long as there are Mac versions for it).
Have you tried any with it?
You may get a little "sticky cursor" with the most demanding new adventure games, but most should work without problem.
