Just curious how you feel about the usage of AI in creating games.

Components of AI Usage in Games:

Graphics
Text
Coding
Localization

Would you be less apt to purchase a game that utilized AI?
Do you think they should all have labels requiring disclosure of what the developers used AI for? Currently Steam requires it, Epic does not.
Does it not influence you in any way if you want to buy the game?

Thoughts.....keep it respectful please and thank you.

Ana

I don't totally understand AI and certainly don't understand game creation so I'll just say that I probably would not know if a game uses AI unless it is stated by the developer as we do see on Steam. If I want to buy a game, I'm going to buy it.

I’m rather of the same mind as oldbroad in that if I liked the look of a game I’d probably just buy it !!

Because what would be obvious if a game had used AI ??

Good question. I see people mentioning some game that has used AI, and frankly I would not have known. I am trying to become more savvy on the topic as not knowing whether something is real or whether it is AI may not have serious consequences in games but could certainly be important in real-life matters. I find it all a bit scary and disconcerting - the broader implications of it, that is.

I see pros and cons with it in games, Ana. It will be interesting to see where we are with it and games a few years from now.

Same thinking here, Marian!

I don’t see bad consequences, really, for the use of AI in games - or am I being naive ??

Its use in real life however, reminds me of the internet ….
Such a brilliant creation for “good” that has become so tainted from use by the “bad” sad
(But this is not really pertinent to the question asked by BrownEyedTigre.)

As a rule, games are fantasy-driven, aren't they? And they have long been developed by people using computers. So it's a logical step for developers to "improve" their product utilising higher computer power. I don't see the downside (unless some talented animators lose their job) and knowing or not knowing the process by which a game was produced would not influence my decision to buy.

AI made me laugh the other day; I was watching an episode of House, when they mentioned an obscure disease. I asked Google "what is (that disease) and she gave an accurate detailed description, along with a caveat to consult a professional. I replied with "I only asked because I am watching House." She replied with "Oh I understand. You must be watching Season seven, episode two. Enjoy."

AI isn't the enemy, the people who use it inappropriately for their own benefit are.
