Hi Boomers,

Just looking for some feedback from gamers who've succesfully played the game on XP. The main question I'm asking myself at this point is: Is this game so old it must ABSOTIVELY use QuickTime 3.0???!?

This game came out around 2000.
Presumably yes - it needs QT 3.0 unless someone corrects me. I think some older games are made specifically for a certain version of QT.

If I'm remembering correctly, it used both QuickTime 2 and QuickTime 3 -- the only game I know of that used two versions of QuickTime. I don't know if newer versions of QuickTime would work with it. I'd recommed playing in inside an emulator like Virtual PC.

eep!

If you're referring to Microsoft Virtual Pc, I went to the description page and I'm sure I'd be too nervous to fiddle around with that. Wouldn't want to risk further damaging my already precarious XP....

Using Virtual PC would probably be less "precarious" to your computer than trying to play such an old game on it.

then I guess I'll give it a shot.... thanks smile

EDIT: Went on the Microsoft website and tried runnning both the 2004 and 2007 versions of vpc. Neither of them support my XP home edition only xp pro. Any suggestions?

The message you see only states that XP Home isn't a supported Operating System.

It will install and run just fine.

Hi,
I played this game on my single core XP, that I bought in December of 2000. Just installed. It played just fine, it might be like some of the older games that have to have their version of Quicktime. I haven't tried to install or play on my newer 2006 or 2008 dual cores, as one has hyper-threading and some games just say no, and the other is a laptop that I don't want to carry disks to go with it.

A computer from year 2000 with XP from 2000 is a LOT easier to get games working on than a current computer with XP SP2 or SP3 with its security fixes and hyperthreading/multi-processor technology. Besides, with Virtual PC you don't have to play QuickTime roulette with the ancient versions that were never meant for XP.

Only if it's your ONLY computer, and you're using it on the Internet.

Several Gameboomers have old computers with Windows 98, Windows 95, or DOS for playing older games -- but they're not on the Internet.

I've played Traitor's gate on my XP pc with hyperthreading. No problems as long as I used compatibility mode.
