Per a few of you suggestions, I purchased Sentinel:Descendants in Time. I tried to load it on my computer with Windows 7 OS. It was loading when a message came up saying it could not find file Data 001. It then asked where to find it. I have no idead what file Data 001 is or where to find it. Can anyone help me?
Thanks

Try putting the next CD in the drive. I think Data 001 is on one of the CD's, and instead of putting the next disc in the drive it asks you where the data file is.

You were right. As soon as I put in the next disc, it finished the installation and looks like it will play in Windows 7. thanks again for your help

It's one of my favorites.

Jenny:
After returning from out of town for a couple days I finally got started with Sentinel. It plays like Mysterious Journey 2, which I liked a lot. I think this will be a very enjoyable game too. Sure glad you got me going with it when I couldn't get it loeded.

Glad you got it fixed. I wish the company had survived to make more of these games.

I see why Sentinel is one of your favorites. It is fastly becoming one of mine too. But Man-Oh-Man. the Lava Bridge puzzle in Corabanti took a few years off my life trying to solve it. After 2+ days of trying, everytime I got on the puter, I finally did it. tough one, but awesome at the same time

The puzzles that were the worst for me were in Sanselard -- because I couldn't remember the sounds or figure out a way to write down a description of them.

That's pitch, not sounds -- nowhere near as difficult as sounds. Try writing down the difference between different types of scraping sounds.

Yeah, I had trouble with Sanselard too. I guess I have a hard time with many(most) of the puzzles. None are easy for me. It's the ones that are interesting, even though hard thatmakes my interest in that game.

Homer6,

I actually had to play most of Myst with a walkthrough. I didn't understand how to play the game back then. I was able to play Myst II, III, and IV mostly without help though. Still have to play V and Uru.

I liked Sentinel but needed help with the bridge, not the sound puzzle though. I guess I wrote those sounds down pretty well.

Jackie

Jenny. I am sad as I finished Sentinel and was loving it so much I hated to see it end.I'm really glad you suggested that game to me. I am now going to play Aura 2, and then Outcry. Hopefully I will like them too
Happy Gaming. jchin Jeff

oldbroad.
Uru is by far my most favorite game. The way you move around, thereal way things operate and look, (like jumping/walking off a cliff onto a pipe, which if you do make it then have to walk across the canyon on the pipe. It doesn't keep you on the pipe....you have tokeep from going to either side yourself) That is just one of the many real-life things you do in Uru. It just really was awesome for me. I've played it and the two add ons probably 5 or 6 times now, and will play it again.

Thanks jchin for that info on Uru. Sounds cool! I'm glad you enjoyed Sentinel. Did you play the first Aura game already? They're both good. I have Outcry, but haven't play it yet.

jenny, whether it be music or scraping sounds, pitch is one component of any sound. And I can see how it can be difficult to sort scraping sounds compared to musical sounds unless you are familiar with a particular scraping sound.

Jackie, yeah, Myst does take a bit to learn how to play. Especially if you've never played a similar game. I found the Myst games I've played so far more deduction games. That is, being able to look at something and deduce what needs worked next, or how doing this is going to affect that. And unless a person has a mind that leans that way, the Myst games can be a hand full. But, oh they are beautiful.

Homer6, Myst was one of the earlier games I played. Who would have thought moving some lever was making a tree grow or water rise (or whatever it was happening). I didn't know to listen for sounds telling me something was happening somewhere else or what a "marker" even was (in Myst) so even with the w/t it took time for me to figure it out.

The first adventure game I played (I think) was The Blackstone Chronicles. I had started it a few years before I actually played it and didn't have a clue. When I went back to it, I eventually realized that the people weren't just talking for the heck of it. They were giving me clues.

I can't say I'm a pro now, but I finally do know to look and listen closely and read between the lines. And sometimes when my sister says to me "how did you even know to try that?", I feel pretty darn good!

I was the same, oldbroad, when I first started with Myst. In some ages I'd hear sounds but didn't connect them to my actions. It got better on the next two Myst, so much better in fact I didn't use a WT as often. I'd learned to look and think about what I saw. And that's stuck with me, which is why I get through some of the HOGs I play without too much trouble.

People in general don't have to look and think about what they see in real life. They know what needs done to achieve an outcome. But how many would obtain the same results if put into a situation totally foreign to them? Would they realize what had to be done, and in what order, to obtain the desired results? Some would, but many would not. I don't that could be said for gamers, at least gamers who are used to looking and thinking about what they see.
